Rico Carty participated in exactly one triple play as a defender. Other than Carty's involvement and the scoring sequence of said play what was the most unique thing about this triple play?

It was at an All-Star game?

Unless they use to hold ASG's in late August, the answer is "no". It was just a run-of-the-mill regular season game.

Was the unique thing that 7 of the 9 defensive players were involved in the play?

That's very very close, but not quite.

The TP list at SABR's site has two notes on this one - that it tied a record by involving 7 of the 9 fielders, and that it was the first TP ever turned by the Atlanta Braves. I'll guess the latter.

Well, I guess that's true but we are looking for unique not first.

This was the second consecutive triple play involving the Cubs on offense in less than a month, and both of the triple plays occurred in the top of the first inning. And...the runners on base both times were Don Kessinger and Glenn Beckert.

Okay, this is the most defensive players involved in a triple play without any player handling the ball more than once.
