Woohoo! I got the topic! Anyway, may God Bless you all with lots of mail this month.

My July started off with six requests in the mail today:

Joe Morgan (Reds 2B) - got the usual index card c/o ESPN
Mickey Morandini - 1/1 Topps 1993 c/o home
Bobby Jenks - 2/2 Topps 2005 Angels prospects card and 2005 Topps UH World Series Highlights
Larry Bowa - 1/1 Topps 1988 c/o Yankees
Gary Gaetti - 1/1 Topps 1988 c/o Durham
Stan Musial - requested and received the postcard c/o home

In addition, I got a Red Sox fan pack that I requested by email last week.

All in all, not a bad day; six all-stars including 2 HoFers.

i was just wondering if you sent the notecard to Joe Morgan or if he supplies the notecard cause i was thinking of sending him a card unless he only supplies the signed notecards. Help would be appreciated

Thanks

Morgan does not typically sign items that are sent to him, however if you write to him you're almost guaranteed to get a signed index card. My guess is that he pre-signs a large number of index cards at one time and then has a secretary mail them out as the requests come in. It would be nice to have him sign a baseball card, but I'm happy just to get anything signed by one of the greatest second baseman in history.

Great success today - Bobby Shantz c/o home in 6 days. In my letter to him, I included an extra index card and asked him if he could share the story of his lone career outfield appearance. He gave a nice long explanation about how Mickey Mantle had to make an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show that night, and the game was going too long for him to stay, so Stengel had Shantz play center field in place of Mantle for the rest of the game. The also signed and inscribed the other index card with "1952 A.L. M.V.P." as requested. Thank you very much, Mr. Shantz!

Easler's a great guy. In '90 he was the manager of the Miami Miracle and I got to know him back the. Few years later he's the hitting coach with the Sox. I'm at a ST game ; my wife is wearing her Miracle cap

Your Welcome,

BIG SUCCESS TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

In March I sent a 2005 ToppsUH All-Star Stitches card to Jon Garland c/o the White Sox ST. I sent a treal sincere letter and made a bunch of safety precautions so that the card made it there and back safely. It was and still is the ONLY Jersey pack pull I have made. And after a few months I thought I lost it forever.
Well, today i opened my mailbox and saw the small sase with a 39cent stamp on it, do not bend written on it and postmarked form Chicago, IL; I was so excited, and when I opened it up I was overjoyed. So never give up on a request.

Also I got a bunch of unsigned cards in a trade with icecool1994

Question for you folks that do this regularly- what do you send to the players? SASE, card, letter asking for an autograph? TTM Successes for 7/13/07-

Chuck Tanner- 73 Topps Coaches cards. Even if I am a Cubs fan and hate the White Sox- I still like the card, and a big fan of the 57 Braves.
Jack Dittmer- 54 Topps- No reprint- I got him on the real thing.

Wow are you serious, Wells keeps on changing his mind about Toronto, 1st he hates it, now he likes Toronto

I used to be a neighbor of his. He said he'll only sign Blue Jays cards because he wants his son to be the only one with signed cards of him in other team uniforms.

Bill North
Charlie Mead '43 Giants
Tony Balsamo '62 Cubs
Bud Byerly '43 Cards
Fred Caliguiri '41 A's..............

Boston’s Ted Williams went 6 for 8 in a double-header against the A’s on Sept. 28, 1941, the final day of the season, to finish with a .406 batting average. He clinched his magical .400 mark by going 2 for 3 against rookie Fred Caligiuri in the nightcap.

Of the remaining 7, I'm awaiting responses from Daniels, Cimoli, and Mejias, which leaves just Don Gross, Dick Barone, Bill Mazeroski, and Joe Christopher. A weird one today. I saw one of my return envelopes in the mailbox, which was cool because I haven't had successes two days in a row in what feels like ages.

I open it up, and...no cards...no index cards...just 5 pages of religious materials folded up to fit. It appears to be a chunk from a larger magazine/pamphlet called "The Watchtower". It's dated Dec 1, 1999.

The envelope is postmarked Lakeland, FL, and it has a forever stamp on it, so it's probably something I sent since about May 1.

The only Florida person I've sent to since then is Scott Olsen of the Marlins...maybe it's from him?

Anyone see anything like this before?

Took a closer look at my "sent" list, and found one from Tampa Bay (Delmon Young), and one from Detroit (Kenny Rogers). Neither strike me as the culprit, but I might be wrong.

Another possibility is Ruben Mateo, who was on the Huntville Stars, but doesn't appear to be on their roster any more. I had sent to him c/o the Stars. His home address not in Harvey's book, maybe he's in Florida?

He's our top prospect, he and Brandon Moss have a good shot to replace Manny and possibly Drew in a year or so. Believe me...with the trade deadline coming up in a little more than a week, Theo Epstein will hear other GMs mentioning Murphy's name in any possible deal.

He's a solid player, but he's far from Boston's top prospect. At best, he's their third best OF prospect, behind Ellsbury and Moss. Lists like soxprospects.com have him 11th in the system, and that's about right.

He probably projects more to a "good 4th outfielder" than a starter, which is the role I hope they give him next year.

Three amazingly quick successes yesterday!

I started a new TTM project the other day...2007 Pawtucket Red Sox and Portland Sea Dogs. I'll post more details about it in another thread. I dropped my first four Pawsox requests at the post office around 4:15 on Thursday. Yesterday, the mail came, and I had gotten THREE of the FOUR back, signed...in 3 days. I think it'd be physically impossible to get something signed TTM faster than this!

The three super-fast signers:

Jeff Bailey - 2/2. Bailey made his major league debut this year for Boston. (scan (http://www.baseball-trivia-game.com/ttm/players/bailey.htm))

Mike Burns - 2/2. Burns is a veteren who's seen major league time with Bosto, Cincinatti, and Houston. (scan (http://www.baseball-trivia-game.com/ttm/players/burns.htm))

Craig Breslow - 1/2. A "young veteren" at 26, Breslow has seen major league time in Boston and San Diego. (scan (http://www.baseball-trivia-game.com/ttm/players/breslow.htm))

He's a solid player, but he's far from Boston's top prospect. At best, he's their third best OF prospect, behind Ellsbury and Moss. Lists like soxprospects.com have him 11th in the system, and that's about right.

He probably projects more to a "good 4th outfielder" than a starter, which is the role I hope they give him next year.

do moss or ellsbury sign ttm if so how long does it usually take to get them back.

Also I forgot to post this yesterday but along with my David Murphy success I got Oaklands Starting Pitcher Chad Gaudin, happy to get that back cause he's gonna be great someday

Don't be surprised if Ellsbury personalizes. He asked me for my name when I got him IP diring ST

Moss was the fourth player I sent to on Thursday, so I'll report when/if I get something back.

I'll be sending to Ellsbury soon, just waiting for the Portland Sea Dogs sets I ordered in the mail to come in (he appears in both the Pawsox and Sea Dogs team sets).

You should get a return from Moss. He's a very friendly kid with a great sense of humor.

Any guys you sent out to recently?

I was at a card show today, bought Don Larsen's 65 Topps when he was on the Astros. Just sent it out. I think he signs licenced items for free, but I got my Pacific Legends asking for a price, because it's an unlicensed item without his consent.

Cool, I hope so, he's a good player having a breakout year in his first season at AAA.

Roman Mejias 2/1 c/o home in 18 days. He signed the index card that I sent and included his own signed 1964 Topps card. The autograph looks so nice on the card that I had to double check to make sure 1964 wasn't one of the years that Topps included facsimile signatures on their cards!

I have created a thread in Archived/Personal Collections to track my new TTM project Mike D's 2007 Pawsox/Sea Dogs TTM Project (http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=64987).

I'll continue to post successes here, but figured I'd throw up a link in case anyone was interested.

I just got back from vacation, and found two successes waiting for me in my mailbox when I got back!

Asdrubal Cabrera 1/1 c/o Akron Aeros 3 days (!)
Beau Mills 1/1 c/o Lake Co. Captains 7 days

Both players signed custom baseball cards. I'm really thrilled about the Mills success. It's my favorite creation so far, and it was a dream to get back this card so quickly with a great sig of the Indians' top draft pick in '07.

I thought I'd never see this one again, but I'm glad it's back...

Phil Norton-signed 1/1 in 622 days c/o his home address.

It's a '99 Topps prospect card with signitures Micah Bowie and Randy Wolf on it as well, so I'm glad I was able to get Norton on it to complete the card.

I had a great day at that mailbox today after being away from the crib for a few days.

George Kell - Signed HOF Plaque, 53 Topps Archives and Index Card (All w/ HOF 83)
Sparky Anderson - Signed HOF Plaque, Returned Index Card Blank
Marty Marion - Signed 4x6 Photo and Index Card w/ 1944 MVP (Signed my letter but did not return my questionnaire about managing Satchel Paige)
Matt Batts - Signed 4x6 Photo and Index Card and a short note saying how he is not allowed to comment on former players (blank questionnaire on Satchel Paige .. he was Paige's catcher in the majors)
Billy Bryan - Signed Index Card (Returned Questionnaire on catching Satchel Paige's last game in the majors in 1965 blank)
Clyde King - Signed Topps Archives Dodgers Card and wrote a short note on the index card

Very nice list of successes, all took around 1-2 weeks. A little disappointed that nobody wants to comment on playing with Satchel Paige in the major leagues.

Yeah and I mean the questions were pretty specific baseball wise (i.e. what pitches did he like to throw, how was his velocity, did he offer guidance to the younger players being he was in his 40's by the time he got there, did they have a chance to face him, etc).

There is so much written on his plajy in the Negro Leagues but not a ton of detail on what he did in the majors, and he spent over 4 seasons there. I'll continue with some of his other living teammates / opponents and see what I can get.

No he doesn't. I would say this presents a big challenge for recruiting, as he must get alot of mail addressed to him from potential players returning forms, etc etc .. but then again because they are a big D-1 program, alot of their recruiting is done in person not through the mail (i.e. sending video, filling out player info forms, etc etc).
