I thought it fitting to start a thread about the newest member of the "3,000 Club" - so, here we go! :)

I'll post a question. Once someone answers, they ask a question, and so on and so forth.

Question #1 - (Obvious, so here goes part of it) - When Biggio caught Nolan Ryan's game in 1988 against the Phillies, a)what number was he wearing? b)Who won the game? c)What did Biggio do offensively?

P.S. - That was Nolan Ryan's last shutout as an Astro.

Time to put baseball-almanac.com to good use!!! :clapping

For the life of me I don't have fore-knowledge of this number, so I hope it's between three and five

On 29 June 2005, Biggio broke the HBP record held by Don Baylor by being hit for the 268th time.

(You can make the next question, though. :D )

Huh? You did get one right, RMB! #4!

Post away your questions, man!WEll, it wasn't the whole question ,but if you say so

1) How many players were drafted ahead of Biggio in the year he was selected?

2) What pitcher picked him off 1B unassisted?

3) What teammate hit back-to-back HR with him, TWICE in one game?

3) What teammate hit back-to-back HR with him, TWICE in one game?

1. He was taken 22nd in the 1st round by the Astros in 1987, so 21.

2. Haven't found that one, I presume it was a hidden ball trick?

3. Lance Berkman, vs. the Phillies on July 25, 2005

Here's a question

Where was Craig Biggio about 10 seconds after he got his 3,000th hit?

Sliding into 2nd.

Okay, next question:

What year did Biggio start up the Sunshine Kids?

NJMetfan4life
07-09-2007, 08:19 PM
" sliding into second"

sorry i belive he was jogging to the dugout because he was thrown out trying to stretch a sigle into a double.(i might be wrong though)

is the answer to your question 1990?

nolanryan5714
07-10-2007, 12:47 AM
Actually, that question was a bit misleading. Craig didn't found the Sunshine Kids, he's just a huge supporter.

From the official site:

The Sunshine Kids Foundation was founded by Rhoda Tomasco in 1982 while she was serving as a volunteer in the pediatric cancer unit of a hospital in Houston, Texas.

I apologize for that.

Anyone up for a next question? Fire away!

What position did Biggio origionally play?

He's a converted catcher. Was an NL All-Star as a catcher too.

This is interesting, besides Biggio, have any other player had 3,000 hits and played at least for a time catcher in the majors.

My guess is ground into a double play. The better stat is that he played every game, all 162 in 1997, and didn't GIDP, he's either the only or one of just a few to do that, either handed.

This is interesting, besides Biggio, have any other player had 3,000 hits and played at least for a time catcher in the majors.

The only other member of the 3000-hit club with any games at catcher is Cap Anson, who's listed at C for 83 of his 2276 games from 1876-1897. 31 of them came in 1877 for the White Stockings, who played 59 games total, with Anson usually cited as the regular 3B where he played 40 games.

Biggio was the regular catcher for the Astros from his debut in mid-'88 (50 games that year), through '89 (125 g), '90 (113 g), and '91 (139 g), for a total of 427 games played at C.

None of the other 25 members, from Rose to Clemente, made even a cameo appearance at catcher.
