I wonder if this has ever happened before...seems pretty unlikely. I wonder if anybody else has gotten thrown out trying to stretch his 3000th hit before! Guess that it's good that he played it like any other hit and didn't hold up to celebrate right away.
Thomas and Biggio...about as similar as China and Lichtenstein.

Well, before Biggio's got caught out while trying to extend the hit to a double, I remember that after George Brett's got his 3,000th hit, in that play, he was caught stealing.

That's amazing...Brett had slowed down quite a bit by that point of his career!
I know...he probably had it easily, but slid right past the bag because he was going so fast and got tagged out then.

I know one thing that Thomas accomplished yesterday- He was the first player ever to hit his 500th HR then get ejected in the same game. I guess that's sort of a dubious honor.

I had forgotten about that!
It was apparently a day for milestones to occur and also be slightly tarnished.
Maybe when Clemens gets 350 he'll also commit 10 balks, or Bonds will be subpoenaed on the field just after hitting #756.
