Now, I fully expect an onslaught of inance retorts to this, but in the interest of old school stats, I'm simply referring to the old-school on-base pecentage and slugging percentage in their raw forms.

I just happened across a guy with more than 350 MLB games played and a career ratio of 1.02 Slugging to OBP. Can anyone guess who that is and anyone have any idea who might hld the all time record? I can't imagine too many major leaguers who could challenge that degree of impotency.

Bill Holbert might be the guy your after (OBP = .228, SLG= .232).

The worst might be Larry Lintz (OBP = .336, SLG = .262).

Roy Thomas comes to mind (.413 OBP, .333 SLG).

The active player is Alberto Castillo who is currently playing for Baltimore.

Bill Bergen is the worst guy of all time. .194 OBP and a .201 SLG in 947 games.

If you wish to do it purely on ratio of SLG to OBP then the absolute worst is probably Mickey Lolich

Wow, never noticed that about Lolich's hitting stats. He was an outstanding walker for a pitcher. 105 BB's in only 821 career AB's. That's gotta be some sort of record for pitcher walking rate.

Without having seen him play, I'm guessing Lolich must have taken 2 strikes every PA and just hoped to walk, only swinging once he was forced to with 2 strikes. It's actually a pretty good strategy for most pitchers batting, considering their offensive incompetence.

Why would anyone ask a question about slugging percentage and include pitchers in the discussion? If we are going to be silly let's go with Jose Mesa. He's been in 448 games and has a OBP of .333 and and SLG of 0.000.

Off the top of my head I know Dal Maxvill was an atrocious hitter.
