Which pitcher has the best chance to surpass Warren Spahn's career win total of 363?

I'll take Maddux. He's only 9 behind Clemens but he's younger. Clemens is off to a poor start while Maddux is having a pretty good year. I think Maddux has an outside shot at 374 which would put him alone at 3rd place. I don't see Clemens getting to 363 - he needs 14 more wins and I don't see him back next year.

I think Maddy has a shot, it seems like he's still an effective, durable pitcher.

I don't see many people betting against Maddux. He is still effective, on a good team and not talking retirement.

Maddux has always said that the second he feels he can't pitch anymore, he'll retire.

You never know, but I think Spahnie is safe.

I think that if Maddux this season with at least 15 wins, and wins at least 15 more next season, he can at least tie Spahn's 363 wins.

If the Padres could just get a few big bats Maddux could really win some games. He's pitched well enough to have a few more wins this year.

If Maddux sticks with the Padres, he has a shot.

I don't think being a Padre is helping him a whole lot. They have an ouststanding pitching staff, but that does him no good. When he's pitching the rest of the staff (minus the bullpen) will do nothing all game. He plays in a pitchers park which helps and his bullpen is very good which also helps. I like that he plays in SD since I live in CA and can see him from time to time but I think he'd be most successful as a Met. They have a great offense, good enough bullpen, and there's plenty of weak teams in that division - Washington is bad, Atl has no offense right now, etc. Shea stadium wouldn't exactly hurt him either.

I hope neither of them does, because Spahnie was really something special. But if one or the other does, I guess I'd rather it were Maddux.

I don't really buy that line of thought. If Maddux passes Spahn, it doesn't make Spahn any less special. Keith Olbermann used that kind of argument against Ripken breaking Gehrig's consecutive games streak.

Petco is the best pitcher's park in the league. Plus they have a good bullpen, and they're a great team, so they'll win a lot of games. I think he could do well as a Met, or someplace else with a good lineup, but San Diego is as good as any, probably better than most.

I'd say Maddux, he seems like he could pitch forever. He should be effective for several more years and as long as hes around you know he'll be pitching a full season, barring injury.

It has to be Maddux. Greg has the best chance. Clemens is barely hanging on in his career. Roger isn't going to be effective forever.
