When I was a avid Twins follower years ago, Corey Koskie was one of my favorite players. He frequently flew below the radar because he played in Minnesota and wasn't the flashiest player. He's currently in Milwaukee, and putting together another solid year.

.261/.343/.490 -- nearly slugging .500. 11 HR, 33 RBI.

Here are some of his seasons in Minnesota...

1999 - .310/.387/.468 - 114 OPS+
2000 - .300/.400/.441 - 107 OPS+
2001 - .276/.362/.488 - 121 OPS+ - 26 HR, 103 RBI, 27 SB
2002 - .267/.368/.447 - 118 OPS+
2003 - .292/.393/.452 - 121 OPS+
2004 - .251/.342/.495 - 113 OPS+

His OPS+ is better than more notable 3B such as Melvin Mora, Scott Brosius, Mike Lowell, Joe Crede, Hank Blalock, and Aramis Ramirez (Aramis is definately a better hitter now, but career wise). His career OPS+ is higher than Ryan Zimmerman's last year, and every talked about how great Zim was in '06.

Baseball Prospectus' FRAA (Fielding Runs Above Average) says he is a very good defensive 3B ( I agree), by giving him a +67 for his career, along with individual seasons of +14, +15, +17, and +11 (they also give him one bad year in '04, when he was in and out of the lineup with injury problems). So far this season, he's at +11.

No poll or anything here, just though I'd give some love to someone who doesn't seem to get any. He's a consistent, hard-working guy, who I wish was still in Minnesota... that's where he belongs IMO. :)

See I always thought he was good too...just never got to see him on a consistent basis.

I agree on Corey Koskie. I also think that Doug Mientkiewicz, from that same team, has been viewed in kind of the same way. Here are some Twins stats:

2001- .306 BA/15 HR/74 RBI/.387 OBP/123 OPS+

2002- .261 BA/10 HR/64 RBI/.365 OBP/104 OPS+

2003- .300 BA/11 HR/65 RBI/.393 OBP/121 OPS+

Plus, a great defensive player with a gold glove in 2001.

Since then, he's been bumped around, and now struggles to hit consistently because he doesn't play everyday. I never understood how he could put up good, solid numbers and wind up a backup.

He is in the same boat as Coskie, he was one of those Twins at the turn of the century who everyine just seems to look right past.
