Curtis Granderson (Det) just hit his 10th HR of the season. He now has 10+ doubles, triples, and HRs before the AS break. Is this common?

I'd have to imagine not because of the triples factor.

I figured it would be somewhat rare that's why I put in this this thread instead of trivia (it is a current event after all). 10 triples by the AS break puts you on pace for 20 (assuming the break is at the halfway point in the season) and 20 triples is pretty rare (it's happened 111 times in ML history which is a little less than once per year but it's much more rare now. The last player with 20 was Guzman in 2000).

All-Star break is a few weeks past the exact mid point, i believe the exact mid point was recently though.

Yeah, it's usually a little after the midway point. Even with that I think 10 triples by the AS break puts you on pace for something like 18 triples which is still pretty good.

81 games played would be the mid point of the Tigers' season. They're currently at 76 gams played (including tonight's game). I do know that George Brett (1979) and Willie Mays (1957) each had 20+ in doubles, triples and homeruns in one entire season. And I think there may be a couple others who accomplished it too. Since Granderson is almost at the mid point of the season and he's on pace to accomplish what only a handful of players have done over the course of the entire season I would guess what he's accomplished before the all-star break is fairly rare.

FSN Detroit just said Granderson is the 9th player since 1957 to have a triple-double by the all-star break.

Granderson is on pace for at least 21 HRs, 3Bs, and 2Bs which has only happened once in ML history - Frank Schulte in 1911. Nobody has ever managed at least 22 in each of those categories.

This isn't even close to being true. It has happened 175 times since 1957. It happened 4 times last year alone (Reyes, Sizemore, Hanley Ramirez and Crawford)

I'm guessing they meant at least 20 doubles, 20 triples, and 20 homeruns all in the same season because that's what Granderson is on pace for not 10 doubles, 10 triples, 10 homeruns.

The 10-10-10 club has been reached 50 time since 1980, so it is not terribly uncommon.

The 20-20-20 club has been reached by five players (three arein the HoF).

Thanks for correcting that. FSN Detroit later corrected it, too. What they meant to say was it's the 9th time since 1957 that it's happened before the all-star break. Granderson is on pace for 21-21-21 which has only happened once in ML history. Nobody has ever gone 22-22-22.

The Sporting News not too long ago projected him at 21 HR, 31 3B and 51 2B. That was in the last couple issues.

31 triples? That would be second best of all time, best since 1912. Other then Bender in 1912, no one else has had over 26 since 1900. Quite a prediction.

He has 14 in 76 games. He's on pace for 29.84 so 31 isn't out of the question. Also, his park doesn't hurt. Any ball hit to the wall (any wall) is an automatic triple for him. Before you call for the *; however, of his 14 triples, most of them are on the road (I think 10/14 but I might be slightly off).
