ESPN is reporting that the Cardinals have acquired Mike Maroth from the Tigers. It is unkown what the Tigers will receive in return.
Cardinals acquire lefty pitcher Maroth from Tigers
The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired left-handed pitcher Mike Maroth from the Detroit Tigers, ESPN the Magazine's Buster Olney reports.
It is not yet known what the Tigers are getting in return for Maroth, who is 5-2 in 13 starts with a 5.06 ERA this season.
Maroth has career 50-62 record and 4.81 ERA over six major-league seasons, all with the Tigers.
The Cardinals' starting rotation has been devastated by injuries. Ace Chris Carpenter is rehabbing from surgery in May to remove bone spurs from his elbow and Mark Mulder is recovering from rotator cuff surgery in September. And Braden Looper went on the 15-day disabled list on Monday with a shoulder strain.
With so many pitchers out, the Cardinals have been forced to rely on former relievers, including Anthony Reyes and Kip Wells, who are a combined 2-19.

I am a Tigers fan and I am glad he is gone. I think he is a borderline AAA pitcher.

Suppan was a big loss for the cards and Carpenter's injury as well. Losing Weaver isn't too bad though :).

I'd think you'd have to be atleast a half way decent pitcher to lose 20 games, I mean if you truly sucked they'd stop troting you out there every fifth day.

Yeah, but his team had 119 losses that year too.

Suppan's ERA was nearing 5 last I saw. (I don't know how he performed tonight.) He would fit right in! Seriously, we can pay Brad Thompson $500,000 or Mike Moroth chump change for a 5 era, instead of the $10,000,000 the Brewers are paying him.
Maroth can't be worse than Wells, Wainright, or Reyes...can he?

Ya that's true but he was pitching better earlier in the season. An ERA close to 5 isn't as bad as it sounds nowadays. DiceK is close to 4.50 ERA

The NL ERA right now is around 4.2. A 5 era is a 83 ERA+ (100 being average.) That is 17% worse than an average pitcher, That is very bad. Not Kip Wells (or insert your own favorite Cardinals starter) bad, but you know!:sorry:
Dice-K's ERA is compared to an AL era around 4.40, but he is still worse than average too. Who said Dice-K was the model for good pitching? ESPN?

You'd think right? Well he lost 21 games in like 2003 or something- but in his defense the Tigs were just terrible that year. BUT, his career ERA is just under 5, so he's no diamond in the rough.

Maroth is definitely fringe on the Tigers, but, still, sadly enough, the #3 on a Cardinals staff without Carpenter
Braden Looper (6-6, 89 ERA+)
Adam Wainwright (5-6, 89 ERA+)
Mike Maroth (5-2, 87 ERA+)
Kip Wells (3-11, 62 ERA+)
Anthony Reyes (0-9, 63 ERA+)
I'm going out on a limb, though, and saying this is a bad trade for the Cards. I don't think the 2006 WS Winners are going anywhere, in fact. Pujols has been great but un-Pujols-like this season (his 148 OPS+ is the lowest of his career, and his .538 slugging percentage is 84 points off his career average), and Chris Duncan has been solid, putting up a .271/.342/.522 line, but other than those two guys, the OFFENSE has been severely lacking as well. Onetime Reggie Jackson imitator Adam Kennedy is barely above the Mendoza line, with a slugging percentage of .258 in 199 PA. Only two Cardinal regulars are over a .350 OBP (by contrast, Kansas City has *almost* 3). So it has been established that not only are the Cardinals not pitching, they are also not hitting. Earlier in the season I pointed out to the Nationals as having the worst pitching staff in the NL. Their 88 ERA+ is unspectacular. But, the Cardinals have an 83 ERA+. Trading for another mediocre pitcher like Mike Maroth is not what the Cardinals need.

I never said good, but I suppose if you truly sucked they'd send you down...right?

If he can do 7.1 IP and only 1 ER again, I'd say that the Cards made off like bandits. Who'd they send to the Tigers? 1-1 game at Shea broken up by a Shawn Green HR in the 11th.
I'm betting that Maroth must have that "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" feeling.
