He'll miss more than 1 start as he's on the DL (unless he usually pitches just every 15 days).

Stupid question: is 15 days the minimum for a 15-day DL? I figure that the 60-day DL is "indefinite", but 15 days seems unusual. It's never 15 days, so if someone can elaborate on this, I'd appreciate it.
If Schilling is going to miss his next start, wouldn't that mean he'd pitch in about 10 days or less? Unless the Red Sox are bringing someone up in the interim, I'm not sure what the reason for this would be for the DL stint.

When was the last day Schilling pitched? They can "retroactive" his DL stint all the way back to the last time he appeared in a game. So if its been 5 days since he last pitched and he went on the DL today, he has 10 more days until he can pitch again.
If you are on the 60 day DL, another player can use your 40 man roster spot. However if you are put on the 15 day DL, in can also be indefinite. I mean a guy can be on the 15 day DL and spend 45 days on it. But after the 15 days is up, its day to day.
In the minors we have a 7 day DL, but the minimum in the big leagues is 15.

Thanks, HG. That's just the kind of reply I'd been seeking. :)
