I suppose I consider all those things. Another thing I consider is which players I like to watch. I'm leading the charge on the Huner Pence front hoping he gets in the ASG some way some how.

I just look at the player who is performing the best at his position during the current year.
Why would you look at 2006 stats to vote in the 2007 All-Star?
Doesn't make sense to me.
The point is to see who the best players are from April until July.

I agree with you 100%, however there are fans that see it as a popularity contest. That is why perennial All-Stars with sub-par season's like Manny Ramirez, Ivan Rodriguez and Jason Varitek get a lot of votes. I try to be fair, I don't like the Yanks, but I have voted for A-Rod and Posada because they have had an excellent season. On the other hand, I am a Mets fan and the only Met that has my vote is Reyes.

I don't look at who performs the best during the first half of the season exclusively as I think the game is more than that. I look at it literally as an "All-Star Game" and if that means putting on a star player who's had an average first half of the year, then so be it. I think the teams are big enough to handle the few unknowns who are having a great first half, and to accomodate the stars too.

In the AL I always vote a straight Mariner ticket. In the NL, I vote for my favorite/the best players (never Barry Bonds) from the first half of the season.

That's basically how I vote (with Tigers instead of Mariners). When the game is in an NL park I'll pick at least 3 players from the home team that I think are the most popular there (therefore Bonds is on my ballot) and then I'll take guys that are the best or former Tigers.

I am not liking how people are voting for Ivan instead of Posada!!!
Look at Posadas' numbers: .345, 9 HR, 43 RBI, and a .404 OB%
Here are Ivan's numbers: .292, 7HR, 39 RBI, and a .304 OB% ( )
If anyone on baseball-fever is voting for Ivan please don't vote for him! VOTE FOR Posada! It is not fair that he is losing the vote because he has been so much better than Ivan this year! He should be the starting catcher for the All-Star Team!

Kenji Johnima ought to be getting more consideration at C too.

My opinion:
It's voting for All-Stars not for yours personally favourite players.
The players who are the best but...

A Definition:
Each team consists of 32 players. These players are currently selected though the following process:
Fan voting: Baseball fans vote on the starting position players for the All-Star Game, with ballots distributed at Major League Baseball games before mid-season and, more recently, on the Internet. When the game is played at an American League park, the designated hitter for the AL team is also selected in this manner. This method has been recently criticized because most of the starting players from the American League are from teams that have large fan bases, such as the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.
Player voting: Pitchers and one back-up player for each position are elected by the players. If the top vote-getter at a position has also been selected via fan voting, the second-place finisher in this category is selected.
Manager selection: The managers of the 30 MLB teams and the Commissioner's Office will fill the roster up to 31 players.
Final vote: After the lists of 31 players for each league is announced, fans will vote for one additional player, chosen from a list of 5 players provided by the manager and the Commissioner's Office.
Replacements: After the roster is selected, the manager and the Commissioner's Office will replace players who are injured or who decline to participate.
