Well, so far I can't find the originator of the phrase. My theory is that it will turn out to be either from the '20s or '50s, and probably be a pet phrase of a very creative announcer.
My search did lead me to the pedigree of a great-great granddaughter of the famous War Admiral. Her name? Frozen Rope. :)
