How the hell has this guy gone from several DFAs, a few trades, and even cut to possible All-Star and 40 Jacks, 100 RBI, .300+ AVG this season?

I wonder what clicked within him that has just completely changed his game.

At 1st I thought it may have just been opportunity, but he's had plenty...and now in Tampa...of all places...the man has finally turned into the player Billy Beane envisioned him to be.

Might possibly be having best season for a 1B in the AL.

No kidding. I'm a Tigers' fan, and absolutley hated the guy when he was in Detroit. HE COULD NOT HIT. All he could really do was hit 25+ home runs a year with a .240 BA.

I'm upset because the Yanks had him and then they dropped him.

He would have solved the 1B problem in the offseasn...Now the problem is named: Cairo/Phelps and soon to be called Menkwhatever/Phelps by Mid-July.

It's Mientkiewicz. I don't know what happened to him, but he is doing great. Too bad that 60% of his teams rotation shouldn't be pitching in the majors (Jackson, Seo, and Fossum)...

He always has been a talent. In Detroit, he'd go through periods where ya thought "wow, this kid could be real good" ... he just never put it together consistently for any period of time. When the Tigers dumped 'em they said it wasn't for lack of talent on his part, but lack of patience on theirs.

He went from a .213 BA and .708 OPS in April to a .356 BA and 1.108 OPS at the end of May.

ESPN Game Log (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/gamelog?playerId=4594)

Now he's up to a .371 BA and 1.371 OPS. That to me is unheard of.
