Is it the time to unload him while his stock is high or do we hand on to him.

I think it would be a good thing to do since we are in a rebuilding mode. Maybe the Nats get a young pitcher for him who will help us in the near future like in the next couple of years.

I'm pretty sure thats been the plan with him all along. Just like last year with Ward and Stanton and that one other guy we traded to the Dodgers.

Let's not be too hasty-we don't know how quickly Nick Johnson will be able to return. Dimitri is swinging a hot bat right now, something we DESPERATELY need.

IMHO-I'd keep him through the end of the season, at least.

Theres not a chance in hell they keep him unless there isn't a market for him, and I find it hard to believe that there wouldn't be a market for a switch hitting First Basemen/DH/OF'er. If you can trade him for a decent mid level prospect you have to do that. I'm willing to bet they do the same thing with Ronnie Belliard too.

I would be shocked if they don't trade him. Wait a minute, it reminds me of someone from last year, oh yeah, Soriano. What the heck was that all about? My only explanation to that was there wasn't a good enough offer (which I doubt) or that Jim Bowden is an idiot (which is more likely).

I hope they don't make the same mistake this year with Young and Belliard.

Not the same situation. Soriano stood to make a whole lot of money, which the Nationals were never going to match. It's very likely that there weren't any decent deals for him in July, because the teams that wanted him, and could afford him could just wait until after the season to make a deal, and it would only cost them draft picks.

Belliard and Young have been nice surprises, but neither fit into the team's plans. I personally don't think Nick is coming back this year, so they may have to hold onto Dimitri for now. They don't really have any other options; Broadway doesn't look like he's going to make it to the majors. Belliard is a good bench player, and I don't think we'd get much in trade for him, so they might as well keep him for the year too.

He is hitting pretty good right now, I don't see why he needs to be traded.

Because the Nationals need some decent prospects and he can provide those. They have no need for vet's like Young when they are 3-4 years away from seriously contending for anything.

If we had a decent 1B to play instead of him right now, I'd say trade him, but we don't.

Doesn't matter as far as I'm concerned. Theres Josh Whitesell down on the farm and its not like the team has much of a chance at this point anyways.

What if they know that Johnson can be back soon? Nick is a really solid 1B.

Well, what if he won't be back soon? Maybe that's why Young is not playing for the 1B/DH-needy Yankees right now while we have some top prospect?

I don't remember seeing anything in a few weeks, but I'm not sure if he's even hitting live pitching yet. It also doesn't sound like he has regained the mobility to move side to side and make the other moves a 1B has to make.

I think he is a good fit for the Nationals right now....that is if he can keep his personal demons in check. I think he provides a boost to a young team that needs a few vets to help them win(or at least not be the horrible team everyone said they would be.) I know that Young could end up helping a contender and they could get some potentially really good prospects...but I think that if you get rid of too many decent players who have been around that they run the risk of screwing with the self esteem and motivation of the very prospects that the future is being built on. To put it simply...losing sucks...especially for young players. Good young pitchers may find it hard to lose even when they put in good innings because they have no offensive support.

He will almost certainly be traded at some point, along with Belliard.

Belliard is their starting 2B for the remainder of the year. Guzman's injury spoils a lot of things for the Nats. They can't trade Belliard because they don't have anyone to play 2B on a regular basis. The struggling Lopez gets few days off because D'Angelo (E-6) Jimenez is the backup . It also makes Tony Batista the #1 RH bat off the bench:ughh

I know that now, but that was posted before i heard about the Guzman injury. I actually think that this could prompt them to try Casto out at 2B, just a thought though.....

I've changed my mind... we need to trade him. He's got to much of an injury history to keep him around. If only we were still able to pull the trigger on Jesus Colome and Cristian Guzman!
