I think I'm going to let this board's voters decide this one - Freaky Finley's too hard to figure ou, and this is the only real place for anyone who might know about the K.C. Athletics. But, celebrate, Philadelphis fans - the Athletics stay in this scenario, begun with a Union win in Chancellorsville in 1863, much more amicable peace, Lincoln surviving, and baseball integrated from the start. It actually happens in Philly, though the players quickly must go to New York.
Anyway, here the Phillies fold (phold? :-) for a number of reasons with some other teams, and Finley owns the Brewers. There was expansion after WW I that made things tougher. (Long story short, more sucessful Federal League didn't last, but the antitrust exemption is never established, as the Baltimore owners keep their team, etc.) The Browns moved to Milwaukee - actually sort of merged witht he Brewers - before the 1940 season. They won a pennant, were sold to the Schlitz people, after a townturn Schlitz sells them to Finley in '55 or so. (As happened in OTL becasue of a strike a year or two earlier; I try to keep historical personalities around because nobody cares what Stan Lognquist would do in this scenario because he didn't exist - people will be more intruged to read about Ruth, Paige, etc. - and Finley :-)
The Giants have skipped to Minnesota in '57, more integrated society, especially after WWII (military integrated after WW I with different President in White House) lets O'Malley get much of what he wants, though not the dome. The Pacific Coast League has 4 PCL teams plus the Braves in it, so L.A. (2 teams) San Francisco, Oakland (which is in financial turmoul and could move) and Seattle (Emil Sick did a great job during the Depression OTL, and Seattle seemed better than SAn Diego) have teams. The N.L. has teams in L.A> and the 2 in the Bay Area, so trains are used and they start a week or two early. The A.L. has L.A> and Seattle and must use the airplanes baseball owns. (The sport purchases the planes rather than teams flying charter or passenger flights - it's seen as safer in the long run.)
I don't know if this will ever get published - if nobody here wants to bother with all the stats and all and cleanign things up, I might just finish it and e-mail it to anyone interested. But, right now, I'd like to know, where do you think Finley would move?
Oops, wanted to make poll only for 30 days, but that's okay. Have fun.
Edit: could someone please add Montreal to the poll. I'd hate to inflict Finley on them, but if enough feel this is possible, why not? Kansas City, I think a smarter Commissioner would block a sale to Arnold Johnson, especially when someone is willing to keep them in the city. (At least, Finley would say that.)
