Now this is a question I do not know the answer to, even though I want to know it:
Today, Johnny Damon is leading off for the Yankees, and is their DH.
When was the last time a DH batted 1st in his team's batting order ?

Especially in 1987, the first year he became a full-time DH, Brian Downing led off regularly for the Angels. Although he was then 36 and was not speedy, he had a great eye at the plate.

Actually I was referring to the first person to make the HOF that had DH experience. Ipitch got it with Al Kaline.
Orlando Cepeda is the HOF that was a DH earlier than any other Hall of Fame, at least until Ron Blomberg makes it. :laugh
