Wanted comments on my son's swing. This was 1st of March, so still lots of flaws to work on. The one in blue was the first game of a tourney-timing was off. The one in whit was blistered down the left field line.

Compare the front foot of your son's swing, and Carlos Beltran's front foot. You are supposed to keep the front foot straight, not rolling around.

My bad, here's the picture...

It looks (can't tell for sure from the still) but Beltran may have "ill-timed" the pitch in the above picture.
It may account for the more "flat-footed" look.
Here's a clip of Ryan Howard and Joe Mauer.
Their front foot "rolls" over as a result of 2 things combined
1) Forward momentum, (weight shift)
2) Rotation

Personally, I like the way this young man's weight is transferred to the outside of the lead foot.

Yeah he was getting too much on his heel. That part has pretty well been corrected, for the time being. He has a tendency, once in a while, to "back- leg" it too much and not get any weight transition. When he is swinging really well, he centers his weight well and traps it behind his front leg when it firms up.

I like the first swing over the second, but very difficult to tell good from bad with a pic.

The second was well after contact-the first was right before(Ithink)

This is not correct.
What the young hitter is doing is a sign of good hip rotation.
Also, the still of Beltran is from a bad swing. He was fooled by the pitch and got out in front of it.

I agree.
The connection and tilt in the first swing are better.
In the second swing, it looks like he's swinging down at the ball based on where his hands are finishing.
In both pictures, he's squishing the bug, which suggests good but not great hip rotation.

I think it depends on when the foot rolled. In the vid clips posted the foot didn't roll until after contact, due to momentum of the rotation. If you roll it too soon then you rob some tension.

Taking Pics and posting them on a website for everyone to have at it is not the way to go. A picture doesn't tell the whole story, just a portion. We do not know where the ball was pitched? Location and type of pitch is a big question as well, heck we don't know if he was fooled.
With that being said I would look at the bottom photo, looks like the typical "Little League swinging down on the ball swing." The swing should match the plane of the pitch or a slight uppercut and not be parallel to the ground. Many players rotate with that front foot after impact. Jeter and Bonds does it sometimes on the inside pitch. So if you can get some video and get different angles that would help you out even better. As usual make sure you work on one thing at a time. :blah: :blah:
