I've seen kids I'm guessing are teens in middle school and various levels of high school make posts asking what to do because they had a bad game or couple of games. Most of the time you just have to relax, not think too much, shake it off and come ready to play the next game.

I admire kids who take a good look at their games, but sometimes it's just not your day. I was watching a former teammate's son play in the SEC tournament last night. He went 1-5. In two of his at-bats the pitcher K'ed made him look like a dancing bear. He popped and topped his other two outs. But his swing is the same as it's been all season. He didn't change because he had a bad game. He used the same swing to get five hits in two games today.

The moral of the story: On a day to day basis until it's obvious you're not getting results ... See the ball, hit it. If you're a pitcher, see the mitt, throw it.

Good advice for parents and coaches too. Just because little Johnny has one bad game is no reason to start making "adjustments".

As your kids advance through the levels there are certain moments that stand out as stepping stones. I remember my son at age eleven in LL, walking to the car after a loss cracking a smile and declaring he sucked that game.

Given his demeanor I agreed with him. I asked him if he wanted to practice the next day or shake it off. He smiled and said "Shake it off since I'm too good to suck two games in a row." I liked he had the confidence in his game and the mental ability to put a bad game behind him.
