As I learned on another board...
Many of you know bbscout the thread poster, scout, baseball man, and friend... I simply know him as Dad. My Dad passed away last night in his sleep. He loved his family, friends, career, and this website.
I never had the privilege of knowing Doug MacMillan (aka DMac or DougMac) in person, but I really respected his work.
He will be missed.

My prayers and sincerest sympathies to his family! Doug was kind enough to give me advice on teaching my son to hit.

Wow, what a shock. I know his joy was his family. May God be with them as they deal with this.

BBF and the baseball community have lost a great contributor. His posts and wisdom will be truly missed.
Chris,
Any way of finding out his family's address - I would love to send them something.

An honor to know him. Always very helpful. Always.
I will miss him.
My prayers are with his family, as I know everyone else's will be.
Sincerely,
LClifton
That's really terrible news. He was absolutely one of the nicest guys I ever met on these boards in addition of course to his tremendous wisdom. As an example, he just called me out of the blue one day asking if my son wanted to be a bat boy for his area code team, despite the fact we had never met in person before. He was just that kind of guy. Wow. I'm still in shock and I will really miss him. I always wanted to play golf with him, but unfortunately I won't get that privilege. Terrible news indeed.

This is a total shock to me, and I thought I saw his screen name on this board last night. When did he pass? I met Doug on Nyman's site and we hit it off great ever since. I always looked forward to going to Sacramento so I could sit and chat with him after BP. He was a first class man, was extremely proud of his son, family and grandkids. We go to Sacramento later this year and I will deffinelty miss him.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

He was a great guy, always positive. We sent several PM's to each other about hitting - he was a big influence for me helping my son. He will be missed.

Wow,
I didn't know him really at all, but had a few back and forths with him.
I recall his analysis of one particular hitter that was supposed be good, some said he could "rake"(I feel ignorant not knowing what "rake" means....help me!), but Dmac had his swing at 6.5 frames, so he advised his team not to touch him, at least not early, or something to that effect. The whole 5 frame swing thing!
I would love to learn more about how scouts use video in this way, but I got the impression he was ahead of the curve on it.
*sigh*

DMAC,
I know you're still close by as you can see you're missed and respected by many. I have learned from you and so have many others. This is the respect that A good person like yourself deserves. I want to thank you for your cause and the help that you provided to many parents , players, coaches and instructors. We wish the best for your son in his climb to be a big league player. To your family and your friends god bless. RIP!

Doug Mac's last post: "I like the running start that Peavy gets with his throwing arm. He goes over his head and from that point on, his hand starts moving and never stops until the ball is long gone.....a running start. You should try that."
Dougmac's last psot before his passing...he posts alot like me, uses alot of commas and as much punctuation he can. He never posted one thing outside the Baseball 101 forum, that is a true fan of the game, and I respect that so mich. I am a very superstitious guy and I will try to find anything strange I can in this; his last post.

I remember the first exchange I had with Doug and every one since. I will miss our conversations as they were always insightful and full of information and perspective from someone who spent a lifetime of studying hitters.
Give Ruth, Mantel, and Dimaggio a lesson or two while your up there Doug. Then go tell Williams his record is still intact..............................

This is awful. Always looked forward to reading Doug's posts. Very knowledgeable and a real nice guy too. A real loss to this web-site and to the world in general.
My best to his family - it was clear he had a lot of love for them.
