so, todd linden was claimed by the marlins today.
i know, i know, not all that big of news.

but, here's my question:
who do you guys like more:
freddy lewis or dan ortmeier?

freddy's been smackin' the ball already while ortmeier has yet to warm up.
when the switch-hitter gets going, he has pretty decent power.

I like Lewis as a top of the order guy. I love a guy who can create problems on the basepaths as well as deliver some pop. In close games it's really useful to have a guy you can use to play for one run, and Lewis is one of those guys.

Right now, Ortmeyer is no different than Linden to me. A minor leagues guy who hasn't proven anything yet. But we can always hope...

me, too.
i totally welcomed dave roberts, even without the pop, for what he brings to the table. and while it hurts to see him shelved, i like the idea of lewis now being able to show what he can do. there's a little pressure on him, and he seems to have the right demeanor for it. bonds has welcomed lewis. not quite taken him under his wing, but i think that that'll happen pretty soon.

Usually, I'm not high on players with Lewis' profile. He's already 26 years old. He barely younger than Albert Pujols. Guys like that rarely become quality major leaguers. However, Lewis, from what I understand, didn't play much baseball as a youth so he may have some substantial development left in him. This kind of development usually occurs from ages 21-25. I've only seen a few of his ABs but I listened to Kruke and Kipe and they said he comes to the plate with a plan. His minor league performances for the most part have not been impressive, though. We shall see.
