I still have 20 requests pending (mostly from spring training) that I sent out before I heard about the postage increase, so they just have 39 cent stamps on the SASE. If I don't get any of them back within a week or so after the increase, should I write them off as failures (no return address on the SASE), or is there a chance that the player himself might attach his own 2 cent stamp to cover the difference? I'm fairly new to autograph collecting TTM, so this is the first time that I've had to worry about a postage increase. Have any of you had any successes from a player who has added his own postage to the SASE?

My rule of thumb is this: If the player is nice enough to sign your card (s) ... he will affix a 2 cent stamp.

They are understanding that it's not your fault, and will generally do that.

And to answer your question... yes. When prices went up from 37 cents to 39 cents a while ago some of mine came back with a 2 cent stamp, or in a few cases 2 one cent stamps also.

Ironically, I recently received a request from Lee Macphail (one that I sent over a year ago and forgot) that came back with a 37 cent stamp. Wonder if it was just an oversight. . .

Honestly it seems like oversights like that would happen pretty often, but I say SEEMS not knowing exactl how the USPS checks peoples postage.

When the postage was raised from 37 to 39 cents, I have gotten back requests where the player put the 2 cents on and when they haven't. I also have gotten requests back with just the 37 cent stamp. You can pretty much bet that you will get your returns back. Worst case scenario is that you will get a notice from USPS that you owe them 2 cents.

I think as long as the player puts it in the mail before the date of the increase the post office has to honour it. If not, then the increase should have come earlier eh?

Just a reminder to everyone- the postage rate went up today. Be sure to put 41 cents postage on both return and outgoing envelopes.
