Since I follow the affiliate at Potomac, here are some observations on our High-A affiliate so far:
1. OF Dee Brown has been very impressive. I liked him at the end of last year, and he has wowed me again so far. He is a legitimate future MLer.
2. 1B Steve Mortimer has shown me some improvement over last year.
3. On the mound, I really like 2 starters in particular-Clint Everts and John Lannan.
4. C Brian Peacock needs to work on his hitting, but he has an outstanding throwing arm. He hasnt thrown many runners out, but almost all of his throws to bases have been perfect strikes.
5. SS Ian Desmond is an absolute bum!!! Enough said.

A shame. Everyone was so high on him before the '05 season that I made the effort to get him to autograph a ball when I went to ST in Viera that year. That same ball is also signed by Termel Sledge, so I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

I saw Desmond play last year in Harrisburg on a regular basis before being sent down to Potomac. Two problems with him at the plate: 1. He believes that he is a home run hitter & 2. When he goes to the plate, he has no plan on how to hit particular pitchers. He simply swings at what he sees. He needs to understand what he own strengths are and play the game to his strengths. Also remember that he is only 21 and won't turn 22 until near the end of the season, so there is still time for him to develop. I wouldn't consider him a bust just yet.

Players aren't tagged bums at age 22.

I agree, but he is far from our SS of the future. That honor is held by Esmailyn Gonzalez.

I wouldn't give up on him yet, but he needs to be able to move to the next level in another year or so to keep the Nats' interest. I seem to remember that he was highly rated for his glove a couple of years back; has anyone who's seen him noticed how that's progressing?

They are when they are at High-A ball 3 years in a row and still making the same mistakes.
