On ESPN.com and MLB.com, it lists Sammy Sosa's middle name as Kevin. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=4344
On Baseball-reference.com, it says Peralta. This is just a weird fact I found.

Hard to believe a guy born in the Dominican Republic of Dominican parents would hang the moniker Kevin on their kid.

That's weird, maybe it was somebody's idea of a joke. I've always heard of it as Peralta. But he had another nickname growing up: Mikey. The way I heard it, his grandmother heard the name on a soap opera shortly after Sammy was born. She liked the name of it and started calling him that. Some of his friend's call him that too.
I don't know if that's common knowledge. Forgive me if I'm just repeating what everyone knows already.

Peralta must be his mother's maiden name. I've never seen "Peralta" being used as a first name anywhere in Latin America.

How about "Valdimir"? That's definitely not a Spanish name either.
