The new season began last sunday with defending champs, Richmond traveling to play new club, London Mets.
The Mets were a youth team, but this year have entered senior baseball.
They are made up of their former youth team players and a few veterans who have joined to offer experiance and, obviously, some quallity arms/bats.
I saw the first game of the DH, and was quite impressed with the Mets, esp their fielding, as they turned a couple of DP's.
They held on to win the game 10-9. Game two Richmond won 11-1.
Hopefully the team will continue to play well enough to keep their Premier League status.

i'd forgotten that the season had started. I'm going to be rooting for Menwith Hill this year as there only about half an hour away from where i'm living now.
p.s shouldn't this thread just go into the british baseball thread http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=30569

Somehow I doubt there is any money in the game there at all. I'm sure the teams find US college students spending time in the UK and maybe a few USAF personel (when I used to commute past the Mildenhall base it was a brief oasis of American cars in rural England - and I could pick up a USA today there to catch up with baseball in those difficult pre-internet days).
I'm glad to see some baseball interest in my native Scotland though, if I ever make it back I'll have to see if a team needs a slick fielding 2nd baseman who couldn't get a bat on a slow moving beach ball. :dismay:

Very true.
Nathan Dunn, who played third base for Louisiana St in 1997 played a few games for the London Warriors in, I think, 1998.
Carlos Lopez, SS for San Diego St, played on Brighton's National championship team in 2001.
One of the best pitchers in recent years was Matt Scales, who played for London in 2002. He pitched at DII Florida Southern.

That's really interesting I didn't know that U.S. players went to Europe to play baseball.

It'll be the other way around, they find themselves spending time in the UK for some reason and are probably glad to find a game above sandlot level.
