Yeah, I think that it is too soon. But that didn't stop me from voting 3 times already. :waving

Why are they out? The ASG isn't until July...there's pleanty of season left to be played.

It's too early but the votes don't matter anyways. Whichever team has the most fans (NYY, BOS, etc.) get all their players voted in since everyone votes for everyone on their team. I've voted a few times, all Tigers in the AL and then some players that I wouldn't mind seeing in the NL most of whom have no shot (Fielder, Utley, C. Jones, Greene, McCann, Bay, Byrnes, Nook Logan [former Tiger]).
Also, I know we've never been able to vote on the pitchers, but why not?

Next year: Vote for your 2012 All-star selection now! :D
Maybe they should announce the teams when they announce where it's going to be played. ;)

This is just stupid. I agree that it doesn't make a difference when they release the ballots because the same players will win anyway, but why not try and maintain some sort of legitimacy by not having people vote 2 weeks into the season? All-Star votes cast this early in the season have no value- they're just popularity votes. I guess you could say that about all All-Star votes, but I still feel like this is a dumb idea.

This also gives time for people to campiegn for players who have no buisness being in the All-star game, like in the NHL where fans voted in a guy who had no goals the whole year because someone started a website to get him in. That being said, vote Doug Mirabelli! (he does have two homers in two games ;) )

So I guess I shouldn't vote for Pujols?:crazy

Rory Fitzpatrick is who you're referring to. He wasn't on the ballot and started a campaign. He ended up just missing the game despite the fact each of his votes was write-in only. He shattered the write-in record. I wish he would have gotten voted in since he had no business being there and it'd have shown how dumb voting is to begin with.

Just to inform you guys and gals, you should write-in Josh Hamilton as an outfielder for the Reds. Just make the feel-good story even better. Plus he has 4 HRs, 8 RBIs, a .308 AVG, and a .808 SLG.

Hanley Ramirez right now deserves to start...let's hope I'm saying the samething by July.

Why would you vote for all your players on your favorite team? I would expect that from somebody who didn't know much about baseball. Not somebody who posts on this board.

The ballot lists Casey Blake as the Indians 3B, which is Andy Marte, hands-down-no-questions-asked. How stupid is that?

Don't worry, Josh Hamilton is the best player on the Reds and he's not on the ballot.

I never vote before June, by which time my vote doesn't really count anymore. But you can't judge a player this time of year! That's nuts.

Yea, I agree its nuts. Maybe we all should vote in some guy who doesnt belong to show the Commish that voting is stupid. We can all vote some nobody in. Maybe we all vote for Ronny Cedeno. Last time I checked he had a batting average of a whole whopping .059. Thats pretty damn good! (Note the sarcasm)

Care to explain why not?
The Great Nom

Because Jose Reyes is the better player. Hanley's right there and the gap is minimal, but nobody does for their team what Reyes does. He's easily the most exciting player in the game and is by far the MVP in the NL so far. I expect him to be in the discussion all year long.
If you want to go statistically, Hanley has one more homer. Reyes has 8 more RBIs, 4 more SBs, and 6 more runs.

Ramirez has a 201 OPS+ in 61 PA, compared to 180 for Reyes in 74 PA. I guess you could call them about equal offensively due to the difference in PA, though I'd personally still go with Hanley.
And Reyes does more for his team than anybody? I don't even think he does more than Hanley, let's check out some " clutch " stats from baseballreference.com
Ramirez

Reyes

Seems to me that Hanley's clearly better.

What's the point?? I've had my reservations about fans voting for All-Stars for years, and I know others have as well, but this is just inane. All-Star ballots in April makes no sense at all. Who really cares, at this point? Does anyone actually take any of this seriously?

Yes, it's too early to start voting for the ASG. Also the "vote early and often" attitude is crap. Each fan should only be able to vote once. This ballot box stuffing makes no sense.
All that aside, I really hope the National League wins this year. I also hope we do a WHOLE lot better this year in interleague games. Last year we got creamed.

Fielder, Bay and Utley have a great chance of making it
Utley the one of best second basemen in baseball right now
Bay made it last year
Have you seen Feilder's stats this year
McCann may also have a chance
Jones has a small chance too, so does Greene

WOW! I just looked at Upton's stats and yup, he'll make it most likley
Sizemore is a great pick
He's a great 5 tool player
As I said in the steroids blog, anybody caught using steroids should be banned from all-star games, awards, and the home-run derby

No, it's just that there should be a better punishment.
You get banned for life for the THIRD time caught using them!
How do you catch someone using steroids 3 times?
It's not fair to all the 2nd MVP place finishers and just-short all-stars because players are cheating!

I've decided not to vote, since MLB made a mockery of the process and released the ballot in mid-April, making it the All-Popular Game instead of the All-Star Game.
