What is the definitive word on which cap does a player elected to Cooperstown wear in his induction ceremony?? I heard a couple of years ago that this was up to MLB, depending on which team they consider a player had his best seasons with. Is this the case, or does the player decide which cap he wants to wear??
Ok, found my answer. It's joint decision by the player and the Hall of Fame, although the Hall has final say. It's what happened with Gary Carter and Wade Boggs.

Correct. Basically, the Hall is saying their plaques are not for sale to the highest bidder, e.g. the Devil Rays having it in their contract with Boggs.
Is there a player you have in mind when asking about this? Clemens? Roberto Alomar?

I think the Hall is wanting Clemens to go in with a Red Sox hat, but he wants to go in with a Yankees cap. This was what I heard a couple of years ago.

If he goes in with a Yankees cap...ugh. NE would hate him forever, not like they don't hate him now, but...eh.

Speaking of great pitchers.....is it safe to say Maddux will be a Brave? Also, is it safe to say Smoltz, too is a Brave and not a Tiger (that wasn't a serious question but it'd be pretty cool if he wore a Tigers hat since he played for their milb teams, it would make no sense; however). Also, for all those Dodger fans out there....if Kirk Gibson were to somehow be voted in I think it's safe to say he'd choose the Old English D.

Clemens MUST go in as a Red Sox. Anything else would be a joke.
Robbie Alomar is more problematic. I hope he goes in as a Blue Jay, but I could understand if the HOF wanted to put him in without a logo.

You could argue his Toronto years were his finest, but the length of his Boston run really seals the deal. He was hardly the Yankees most dependable pitcher the way he was for the Red Sox.
