I am interested in this one as well, considering it the closet one to Atlanta and I'm curious what teams are playing in this one. Not to mention it's an awesome vacation spot to boot. But baseballglory.com, where I'm looking, doesnt mention a word about it.

I'll be in Ft. Myers as well. Would like to go to the Baltimore one but the Danger won't be ready in time. I wouldn't mind going there as a free agent, but they haven't let me know if any teams are looking for players. I will be flying to Baltimore for Memorial Weekend anyway, but am planning to drive up the East Coast and back. If they really needed someone, I would consider playing in it.
As far as the other ones, the WBL (baseballglory.com) had the events posted for 2007, but I also noticed they don't anymore. Not sure why. I will e-mail Justine to see what's going on. I just saw her last weekend in South Bend at the conference. She did mention the Toronto tourney there, and I thought she mentioned the Cooperstown one. I will post any info I get from her.

Australia just had the national tournament, over Easter week. The grand final was again held between New South Wales and Victoria. The result was the reverse of last year, with Victoria pipping NSW at the bottom of the 7th to run out winners 4-3.
They usually announce the Australian team at the end of that game, but this year have held off for a week or two. Australia will not be sending a team away this year, but will focus this year on development of the women they choose, with a view to attacking next year's World Cup.
http://www.wa.baseball.com.au/?Page=34836 I like the batting shot for SA vs NSW (South Australia vs New South Wales) but I'm biased.

I hope to get to a women's baseball national championship soon. I'd love to see the competition and the teams/countries there.
This tourney has been added to USA Baseball's list of 2007 scouted women's baseball events:

I heard there are close to 20 women's teams from Canada and the U.S. that have expressed interest in coming to Detroit. There will also be a girls' division with at least 2 girls' teams playing... the Chicago Pioneers and at least one team from Detroit. This is a first-ever women's baseball tourney for Southeast Michigan. Hopefully, it will become an annual event.

Some of the women's teams are looking for extra players... especially experienced pitchers... for the Can-Am tourney in Detroit. 17 women's teams combined from Canada and the U.S. are coming... plus 3 girls' teams... so far. The tourney will be scouted by USA Baseball.
Please PM me if you would like to be put on a team.

Not sure if the Danger will be able to go as a team, but if so, I'm sure we'll have space for you. If the Danger can't go, I'll play with the Great Lakes contingent. Will let you know closer to the date if I hear of teams needing players... which is usually the case.

I'm pretty sure South Bend is looking for players, and I heard some other teams are. You can play with the Danger, too, but I think South Bend is more in need of players. I will contact them to see. John Kovach is a great guy to play for. You can bunk in with one of us locals if you want to. Will get you more info.

Whoever told you to stay in Dearborn is completely wrong. It's not even near where the games are... plus, I don't know of many hotels there besides the Hyatt... which is a lot more expensive. There are a ton of hotels around the airport... just about anything you can think of that would be by an airport. Lauren found a hotel that is near the fields. I can post the info.

Can-Am Spirit of Sportsmanship
International Baseball Tournament
June 29 - July 1
Dear Team Representatives:
Here is the latest update for you, as promised. I was out of town over the weekend, so it may take a day or two to respond to some of your questions and emails. I apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience.
ALL of the following information will ultimately find it's home on the Metro Detroit Women's Baseball League website (no need to worry about printing out this email - you will have access to this same information elsewhere). The URL will be given to all teams by the end of this week for your continual perusal. Registration Forms will be emailed to all teams by the same day. If you should need an alternative source for tournament information or registration forms, please contact me.
First and foremost, we waited until Midnight last night to see if we could get a final word on car rental fees, but alas we evidently must wait until Tuesday or Wednesday. The gal we're working with went on Spring Break and was expected back yesterday. We're confident she'll be in touch soon. We'll let you know what we find out, as soon as we know.
Secondly, (as mentioned in the previous email/update), we've had to relocate this entire tournament (due to an overabundance of team interest) from a "small community downriver area" (that is, "south" of Detroit) to a north/west suburb (Livonia/Northville/Canton area) in order to service our newly discovered needs. This area is much more affluent, enthusiastically media-friendly and very, very populated. Fields and facilities are extremely difficult to come by, especially on such short notice (most big tournaments, in this area, are generally planned 12+ months in advance). We are extremely lucky to have secured the fields that we have rented for the tournament. With the increase in teams, inevitably, comes an increase in costs. Our deepest desire is to make this tournament as affordable as possible, for everyone. Through much networking and future fundraising, we were able to contain the increase to only $100 per team; so that the new cost for a 10 to 14 team tournament is now only $500 per team. As any tournament organizer knows, the cost for this many teams is usually much, much higher. The Detroit players are working very hard to offset the difference in costs by fundraising and selling sponsorship packages. Those same sponsorship packages will be available to every team participating, as well (i.e., the sale of banner space on the outfield fences/page space in the tournament program, etc.). A "Package" sample will be sent to you soon with details. We sincerely hope and pray that this new tournament fee is still within your team's financial picture, and that we'll be seeing you in Detroit!
Thirdly, our "base" (hotel) is about 20 Miles north/west of Detroit, with the tournament being played at fields approximately 15 minutes (SW) from the Hotel (in Northville, Michigan).
Here are some other final details, for your mental notes:
----------------------------------
EVENT DATES (REPEAT)
The final and official event dates are: Friday, June 29th - Monday, July 2. Friday, June 29th is a "travel day", so arrival time is at the discretion of each team.
NOTE: The Detroit Tigers will be playing on Friday, June 29th, at 7:05pm at Comerica Park against the Minnesota Twins. This is also a designated "Fireworks Night," which is always a treat. We're currently working on a "group rate" that will range between $6 and $20 per ticket for "good" to "awesome" seats. The Detroit Tigers organization has promised to acknowledge our presence, as a group, on both the TV boards and through the PA system (!). More information will be provided as we secure rates.
OFFICIAL HOTEL
Hampton Inn
20600 Haggerty Road
Northville, Michigan
(734) 462-1119
RATE: $60 per night (+10.5% tax)
-Free WiFi
-Free Hot Breakfast
-Free On-The-Run Breakfast Bags
-Exercise Room/Outdoor Pool
+ 18 Miles from Detroit Metro Airport
+ Typical Taxi (Minimum) Charge: $35
+ Directly off i-275 (main road to both tournament and airport)
+ Directions From DTW Airport to Hotel: W. I-94; N. I-275. Exit #167 (located S/W corner)
NOTE: There are two types of rooms being offered, both at the $60 nightly rate:
King Study: 1 King Bed with 1 (bonafide) Queen Sofa Pullout
Double: 2 Full Beds (with empty floor space for another single/double blow-up bed)
If you're planning to have more than 2 people per room, I would highly recommend the King with Queen Sofa Pullout (King Study). All teams must reserve their own rooms, on their own credit cards, using the following codes:
#85677645 - King Study
#88039085 - King Study
#83845869 - Double
There are two codes for the King Study rooms because they only have 38 (in 2 blocks) of these types of available. The sooner you call and reserve, the more likely you are to secure these. Reservations must be made by May 28, 2007 to secure your room(s).
Unfortunately, there are no onsite laundry facilities At the hotel (otherwise it would be our absolutely "perfect dream" hotel). We feel very fortunate to secure the rate that we received (normally $79/night), even if it means "no laundry facilities" (admittedly, it was hard to overlook -- but since money is always a factor for all of us, we took one for "the teams" in favor of the savings). The nearest coin-operated laundry is approximately 5 miles away. Keep in mind that most teams will probably end up washing clothes on Saturday and Sunday only - if even that often.
Within walking distance (100 yards!) of the hotel are the following restaurants and stores: Trader Joe's, Uno Pizzeria, Big Boy, Meijer, Dick's Sporting Goods, Cinnabon, The Coffee Beanery (and more). Within 1 mile driving distance from the hotel are the following restaurants and stores: Starbucks, Target, Costco, Champps, Bahama Breeze, J. Alexanders (and more). Within 5 Miles driving distance from the hotel is an indoor hitting/pitching facility called The Bull Pen (one of the official training centers of both Detroit travel teams), owned by former Detroit Lions player Frank Gallagher. Jeff Jones (current Tigers pitching coach) and Bruce Fields (former Tigers hitting coach) are both instructors here. Nate Robertson pokes his head in from time to time, as well. It's always fun at The Bull Pen!
Finally, while you probably won't encounter any rush hour traffic on Saturday or Sunday, you most likely will have to deal with the thicker flow of rush hour after Monday's games. You can expect a 20-minute drive from the Airport to the hotel upon your ARRIVAL. However, please give yourself an hour of drive time between the tournament site/hotel and Metro Detroit Airport after MONDAY'S game, upon your DEPARTURE.
OFFICIAL CAR RENTAL AGENCY
Thrifty Car Rental Agency at Detroit Metro Airport
Current Rate: $29/per day for a midsize car (fits 4 comfortably + equipment)
(We're currently working very aggressively to secure a $22/day rate for MINI-VANS; we'll let you know when the final rates become official.)
OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT FACILITIES
Plymouth-Canton Educational Park
46181 Joy Road
Canton, Michigan
COMPLEX: 3 High Schools / 6 Baseball Diamonds
+ 10 Miles from the Hampton Inn Hotel
+ 16 Miles to Detroit Metro Airport (DTW)
+ $5.00 one-time fee for all players and daily fee for all spectators
NOTE: This "Complex" is very unique in that it contains 3 High Schools under one roof (organization). ALL baseball fields (6 Total) are within walking distance of one another, but teams should probably plan on driving to the parking lots of each field to save time and energy. This is a HUGE complex with plenty of room to roam. Remember that there will probably be a small 1.5 hour break or so between your games. Unused fields may be used as warm-up/practice fields (more info provided as tournament draws near). Three of the six reserved fields have fences. I will provide the dimensions at a later time, for those curious. I thought you might find the following to be interesting concerning this facility/complex:
Wikipedia Entry: "...(known by locals as PCEP, "The Park", and "Pee-sep"), Plymouth-Canton Educational Park is a 305-acre (1.2 km²) campus home to three high schools in the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. PCEP services residents of the City of Plymouth, Plymouth Township, Canton Township, and parts of Salem Township, Superior Township, and Northville Township, and has a student population totaling more than 5,800 in grades nine through twelve. It acts as one school regarding academic programs, and three schools for athletic programs (although certain sports teams, such as lacrosse, marching band, and women's ice hockey combine as one team). Students may have classes in all four buildings, even though each student is assigned to one "home school". PCEP has over 50 clubs and organizations, including an award-winning radio station, WSDP-FM 88.1 'The Escape'. PCEP is one of the largest high school campus in the USA...."
HOME RUN DERBY
A Home Run Derby will also take place, as an adjunct event, at the Can-Am tournament. Entry fee is $5 per person, paid at the site (covers facility costs, balls, etc.). The Derby will be played on Saturday and Sunday, with possible finals on Monday. The final number of teams participating in this event will determine the final time slots. There will be 2 Divisions for this portion, as well. The Upper Division will hit on fields with these dimensions: 250 x 275 x 250 (L/C/R). The Lower Division teams will hit on fields with these dimensions: 225 x 250 x 225. There will be trophies and prizes to the winners. The Derby will most likely take place from 7pm - 9pm on Saturday and Sunday. Monday's timeslot finals (if necessary) are TBD. More information will be provided in the coming weeks. We already have a couple of local newspapers and one television station interested in doing stories on this event, so wear your best attire (shouldn't be too difficult: dirty uniforms are probably ideal)!
DEPOSITS DUE
As mentioned in the last update: a $200 non-refundable deposit is due by May 5th, 2007 (and will be applied toward your team's tournament fee). This will secure your team's spot in the tournament. Verbal confirmation will hold your teams' spot only until May 4th. The remaining monies of $300 will be due by June 11th, 2007.
Another email will soon follow with a link to both the stationary information page (with all of the above information contained within), and a link to the Registration Forms. More information will be added to this same page as the tournament draws near (official rules, etc.)
That's all, for now. Please keep in mind that game and derby times, as well as divisions and "breaks between games" could change, pending final number of teams. We are anticipating as few as 10 teams, and as many as 14 teams.
If you have any questions or concerned, please do not hestitate to contact me.
We hope to see you soon, in Detroit!
Yours In Baseball,
Lauren Elliott

Well, if no one else who needs players more than us responds to you, you can play with the Danger. Go ahead and book your ticket and play with us if no one else responds. You have a team to play on either way. We have just 10, so we definitely need more.
