Hello all. I am new to this forum and wanted to join for your advice/thoughts on our 9-year-old son’s pitching mechanics. I’ve taken this video from a digital camera in our backyard. I am not sure how to frame it to make it better for you. Any tips we can use to correct him and preventing injury is appreciated.

Thanks,
J’s Mom

From the time he starts his windup until he strides, looks real nice. It appears he may be striding too far left instead of driving his foot towards the target. This causes him to be too open to the target. This places extra stress on his shoulder bringing his arm through. It should be fixed from a stress standpoint. His lead arm is too low. The elbow should be higher. This is a balance and accuracy issue. It was hard to be sure, but his back elbow may be a bit low. This puts more stress on the arm too. The longer arm swing may also decrease velocity.

Just that's he's nine requires room for caution. His growth plates have a long way to go to full development. No one remembers the 9U heroes. Let him have fun, but don't let him pitch more than a handful of innings a week.

Overall, very good for a 9 y/o.

1. Get his elbow up slightly
2. Point the ball to short with palm slightly under the ball (this will help prevent injury)
3. Pull the glove in as he rotates.

Umm as far as I see, hes not following through enough.

He throws using all arm. He needs to involve the large leg muscles in his delivery. And move his push off foot to the 3rd base side of the pitching rubber.
