Rolen, better and more consistent offensively and, there is no debate about the defensive aspect...

Soriano... the worst defensive second bagger in recent memory.
Rolen... the best defensive third baseman in recent memory.
And even on offense Rolen beats Soriano. True, Soriano has stolen 211 bases to Rolen's 99 (with Rolen being a year older), but Rolen trounces Soriano in almost all other aspects of the game.
29, 23, 38, 33, 33.
That's how many times Soriano walked in his first five full seasons. Consequently, his OBP never ventured above .338. In Rolen's first five full seasons, his OBP never ventured below .368.
Rolen has, up to this point in his career, averaged 6.79 RC/27. Meanwhile, Soriano has averaged 5.81 RC/27. In 2006, with his IBB numbers inflating his TB, he averaged 6.85 RC/27. This was a 40/40 season, a supposedly "historic" one. Meanwhile, Rolen quietly put up a 7.38 RC/27 in 1998.
Ridiculously, Soriano, a supposed "All-Star" caliber player, has an OBP .008 points LOWER than the league's.
Rolen's FRAA is 152, while Soriano's is -41.
Rolen's EQA is .292, while Soriano's is .281.
Rolen.

I went with Rolen due to his glove and OBP, but Soriano is not without his virtues.

Rolen is a slam dunk.
He brings the intangible of being a team and a clutch guy. Soriano, although, rich in talent, brings a reputation of selfishness and a fragile attitude.
