Jake Westbrook signed a 3-yr, $33M contract extension.

It's not just that thoroughly average, while valuable, gets $11M, it's the smaller market teams ponying up. Hmm.

It's Gil Meche-Ted Lilly money, which I guess isn't all that outrageous. If the Tribe expects the spending madness continue, and given the lack of quality pitching, it's not a bad signing.

I think a lot of those mid-range guys will end up with similar deals, while the Santanas and Zambranos blow the lid off the bank.

It's still nuts, but teams can spend what they want.

What's wrong with $8M for average, durable pitching? I know there are factors and I;m going to be normative, but that SHOULD be plenty, a lot really though perhaps not with the scratch they are paid early on. Why do they get a 40% raise off of that? SPs are making average NBA players look underpaid.

A lot of these deals are going to go bust like 2000's, and young, dirt-cheap pitching is going to become even more sought after, platinum to plutonium.
