Last night Dutch pitcher, Rik van den Hurk, made his debut for the Florida Marlins against the Brewers. In 4 innings he struck out 5 batters. Not bad for a player from a country where baseball is almost the smallest sport.

I am darn proud. :applaud: :applaud:

What happened to the Dutch pitcher who threw the no-hitter in the WBC?

Good question. He played for the Giants' organisation by then. He is playing for the Nationals' organisation at the Potomac Nationals. His name is Shairon Martis. He is from Curacao, Dutch Antilles.

Thanks a lot. I had heard he was in the Giants' organization, but when I tried looking up some info on him I didn't see him anywhere in the Giants' farm.

I remember "watching" the game via MLB Gameday (my cable company doesn't carry ESPN Deportes)and crying tears of joy at the end. Considering that Panama had several MLB vets on their squad, it had to be the best moment in Dutch honkbal.

If Van Den Hurk is still with the Marlins when they come here to play the Devil Rays in May, I'll be there..just look for some guy dressed in Oranje. And don't be surprised if I sneak in a flag that is also red, white & blue ;)

For those who don't know, I am American by birth, but hold dual-citizenship via my father.
