I have a probem, you see, I have this friend who is new to baseball and wants to know distinctivly the difference between a slider and a curveball. I tried to explain it to him and to give him examples but to no avail, could somebody give me something concise and understandable to tell him the next time I see him... thanks.

umm well lets see.
A slider looks like a fastball until it breaks at the last second and it much faster than a curve ball and has a straighter path and usually doesn't break quite as much.
A curveball is meant to have a big, slow, over the top break and is slower than a slider and is supposed to start i the zone then drop out of it or just catch it.
hope that helps
