There was a top on Nesheks site about this, but I wanted to make sure everyone here was aware. (This may be basic but it was new to me) You can email teams requesting a fan pack and they send you some neat stuff for free. Today I rcvd. fan packs from the Blue Jays, Brewers and Indians and got some oversized cards (not normal cards, but I don't know what else to call them) and some schedules and a magnet. Very autographable stuff!

Who are you addressing the letters to that you are sending out?

And are you including any SASE, I havent heard about this before sounds kind of interesting.

EricDavis

No SASE. No letters at all. You just go to the teams official site and at the bottom you click on "Help-Contact" or whatever then you click "other" and write a quick message including your address requesting a fanpack.

Yup it had two oversized cards and some other stuff. By the way I just put a Boof Bonser RC into my binder where I keep cards I'm planning on mailing.

Thanks for the info, EricDavis. I didn't know about fan packs. I just requested fan packs from the Cubs and the Twins. Hopefully they'll send something out to me. I like getting free stuff in the mail, especially if it has to do with baseball!

Jayme

I sent out a few requests and got some answers back,

The Twins have requested that I write a short letter or postcard regarding fan packs and they will gladly send one along but they don't accept fan pack requests through email.

The Royals said they would send one right away and same with the Blue Jays.

Thanks for this idea EricDavis

What kind of response did you get from colleges?

most of them give you posters and pocket scheduals....

That's kinda cool.

Years ago, when I was in elementary or middle school, I wrote to all the minor league teams and a lot of them sent some really neat stuff, like team photos, magnets, schedules, cards. I think some of the PR guys just went down to the pro shop and grabbed anything that would fit in a flat envelope.

I remember the Bisons sent me a ton of stuff.

As far as major league teams go, I'm sure we'll have better luck with smaller market teams. The ones with smaller fan bases are happier to try getting more fans on board than, say, the Yankees would be.

Got this reply from the Padres.

Dear PJ,

Thank you for writing the San Diego Padres, the 2006 National League West Division Champions, expressing an interest in receiving an Official Padres Fan Pack. The club is delighted to have such a widespread fan base, as we continue to receive thousands of requests like yours from fans nearby, across the nation and around the world.

We would be happy to send you an Official Padres Fan Pack. In return, we ask only that you consider making a $15.00 donation to The Padres Foundation for Children for each fan pack requested. (Processing and handling are both included in the $15.00.) Each pack contains a number of great promotional items and additional information about the club.

To receive a Fan Pack, please send a check or money order made payable to The Padres Foundation for Children, along with mailing address to:

San Diego Padres

Attn: Official Padres Fan Pack

100 Park Boulevard

San Diego, California 92101

An important component of Padres’ baseball is a long-standing commitment to community philanthropy. In 1995, owner John Moores established The Padres Foundation, the organization’s charitable arm. The Foundation continues to meet the needs of children with specific emphases on education, recreation and health.

The funds received from all Fan Pack donations directly benefit the Padres Scholars Program (education), the Little Padres Parks Program (recreation), and the Cindy Matters Fund (underwriting the Padres’ pediatric oncology research effort at UCSD). The Padres Foundation falls under the umbrella of The San Diego Foundation, a not-for-profit initiative.

Thanks again for your interest in the Padres.

Sincerely,

Tim Katzman

Corporate Communications

First thing I saw was "$15, screw that." Then I saw it was for a donation. I'd have to see what they send before I commit $15, even if it is for charity (most of my donations go to the National Fallen Firefighter Fund...hint, hint).

But yeah. I think this may be getting me back into collecting....

I got a couple form replies. One from the Royals redirecting to a page on their website. Also got one from the Yankees saying they only fill requests mailed to them at The Stadium. Which is cool. No problem dropping .39 for a pack, as long as it's got cool stuff.

Nothing's come back yet, though.

Dodgers sent the most stuff so far.
Hope this helps.
I'm sending out the Yankees Snail Mail Request, and received a Twins Email saying they need a Snail Mail request also, so I'm sending out one to them also. Hopefully they can send me some Neshek Stuff!

you're the hipolito guy? Love the site.

And people, don't bother with Round Rock Express unless 3 schedules and nothing else is enough for you. And the schedules depict a random kid, and not a player.

The Royals said they would send me a pocket schedule and a fan pack, but they only sent a pocket schedule! :sorry:
Not that I'm complaining. It's not like I sent money, I didn't even have to use a stamp.

Maybe the fan pack will come separately? Not that it would make any sense...

LOL that's what I did too...went right to :candle: the Red Sox site.

I'll have to read my letter over again from the Blue Jays because I don't remember it being personalized. If anything it was a personalized form letter stating my name.

I got a fan pack from the Cubs today. It took a while to get here. They sent a Believe bracelet, a temporary tattoo, a sticker, a pencil with the logo on it, 3 of those big promo cards (Jacque Jones, Ryan Dempster, and Bob Brenley...odd choices!), 2 pocket schedules, and the usual information about Wrigley Field tours and ordering the team magazine. I'd say a good haul. It cheered me up on an otherwise awful day.

The Boston Bruins sent me a good fan pack. It included a nice spiral-bound rule book with all the recent rule changes and lists of penalty times, that sort of thing. They also sent a nice lapel pin. If you're into hockey, request a pack from the Bruins.

Out of my 14 or so requests, I have recieved 3 fan packs. The Jays sent me one with a pocket schedule, a personalized letter, and four cards (Lyle Overbay, Greg Zaun, Roy Halladay and Royce Clayton). The A's sent me a pocket schedule and an information sheet on the elephant logo. And the Brewers sent two schedules, a little magazine-type thing, a 4x6 of Prince Fielder and a registration card for their Kidz Club. Pretty neat stuff, I'm hoping for a few more.
