What is the thoughts on when to introduce switch hitting? I have an 11 year old - small and quick. He bats right handed and plays hockey left handed (giving him a significant left handed swing experience (motion and hand/eye)). In the batting cage his swing and results are about 80-90% of what he does right handed (without any work on it).
Thoughts?

the earlier the better. if its not working out, stay with the dominant eye.

my kid golfs right handed and bats left handed. I let him hit some balls right handed last week and his swing looks good. just a little slower and less power. I am going to try giving him some cuts ever week. Should be an easy pickup due to the golfing

is it more beneficial to switch hit or just hit from your dominant side?

It's twice the work, if not more, to switch hit. In addition to practicing from both sides there's a need to compensate for the lack of live action from the right side (lack of lefty pitchers).

the way the i learned how to switch hit was just playing wiffleball in my backyard with friends. i learned to hit lefty that way and now i only hit lefty because i have a far smoother stroke lefthanded then opposed to right and over the years i havent had time to work on both sides in practices
i intend to resume switch hitting in college.

I picked up switch hitting, by me getting confused at the plate of which way was right and left, so i just picked which ever one I felt like hitting from. One time I was in minor league (lower than little league) and I went up to bat righty, first pitch, I didn't feel comfortable and was like screw this, so I wanted to switch to the left side, kinda embarrassing, but a little funny.
