Hey, it's been a long time since I've written about pitching, but I've been working pretty hard on stuff for a month and wanted to not take video while I just got out there, cleared my mind, and had a lot of fun. Here's the latest session I've taped:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTrABCGAGfY
Side session at View Ridge - first session taped in a month. I felt really good on the hill today and the weather was beautiful. Earlier in the month we broke out the speed guns, and Jacob was consistantly sitting at 71-73 mph while I was at 70-73 with the fastball as well. I feel that this is great progress.
Video details - 1 side shot, 6 shots from the rear. Rear pitches:
1) Two-seam fastball
2) Four-seam fastball
3) Circle change
4) Circle change
5) Curve
6) Gyroball
I'm fine with throwing 70-73 mph right now, and I'd like to move up, but my control/command has been good lately and my arm feels very good. I've been running more and dieting in hopes of shedding a few pounds before the season (trying to get to about 190, shouldn't be a problem), and I feel really well-prepared for this year.
The cues I've been working on lately are:
-Bringing the glove to the chest to keep the shoulders square and staying on target (thanks Baseball Love, I think)
-Striding sideways to the target (lunging)
-Keeping the arms really loose
I know I could add some more velocity by working on hip separation and explosion there, but that will come later. Right now, I'm pretty happy with being able to throw three pitches for strikes (fastball change curve) with good consistancy at 70-73 mph in an amateur league.
