Any advice to help a young kid(8) who is way out in front of almost everything. Last game, six straight pitches hit hard foul to left field. Rt handed batter. He has a good swing, but can't seem to get the timing thing down. Faster pitching has helped a little, but too fast and he has trouble seeing the ball well if that makes sense. Plus I'm not that comfortable pitching that fast to him and can't do so consistently.
Move him up in the box?
Thanks,
Tim

I have never coached 8u ball so this might not work for you or pertaine to you. It is obvisously a timing problem. You say he is OK on fastballs unless they are really fast then he has a problem then. One - how is his eye sight and depth perception? This might sound silly but why not check it. What we do with our varsity players when they have this problem is in BP have them work on hitting the ball up the middle or opposite field. This will make them wait longer on. We will not accept anything pulled. This is during BP, it is a drill. Another drill - set up a pitchers protector about 20 feet down the first base line just in from the foul line. Sit behind it and toss balls just to the outside corner making him hit opposite field. Again this is just a drill but we are trying to get them wait longer.
