Verlander? Is this some kind of a joke?

It's going to be Santana, but I pity those of you not considering Bedard or Lackey. And I also pity those of you considering Wang or Pettitte.

Honestly, there absolutely NO way to tell who will win the Cy Young, we are 2-4 game in to the season, this is way to small of sample size to know who will win let alone make an educated guess. Untill we're at least a month ways through the season, it absolute, pure speculation.

I picked Johan because IMO he's the best Pitcher in the AL, but I think Felix should be on the poll because he's one of the best in the AL, and deserves to be talked about. Totally different then being the best.

I went with Halliday...he is one of the best pitchers in the league and the Jays are actually getting better as a team.

Santana looked awful Opening Day.
Bedard looked okay....until....

I really cant say for a fact, but a few dark horse candidates

1) Rich Harden, Oakland Athletics

Harden dominated in his first start, 7 innings, 94 pitches, 7 strikeouts. Not too shabby. But he has to avoid injury.

2) King Felix
3) Josh Beckett
4) Gil Meche SUPER DARK HORSE HE BETTER BE GOOD $55 MILLION IN THE WORST CONTRACT SINCE DREIFORT... or... could Dayton Moore actually see something... good... in MECHE???
5) John Lackey

If Gil Meche wins the Cy Young ill chew off my legs.

I saw something good in Meche on Monday.

Why does everyone want Beckett??
Look at what he did last year!! He was worse than Randy Johnson. I even think that he gave up the most homers in the league.
I think I'll cut my legs and arms off if Beckett wins it(because I know he won't)     :blah:

Better Meche then Beckett!!!!!!!!

If you really do look at last year, you will also see he had some dominating performances.

Get ready for amputation, doctor, he's going to have a fantastic year. I'll bet you anything you like that Beckett has a better ERA than Gil Meche.

There's no way I can go against Santana, but as my dark horse, I'll take Halladay or Harden (if he can stick around long enough to log 200 IP).

Here's another vote for Santana.

I wish all those guys some luck, including Dice-K and more especially Bonderman and the otherwise-mentioned Verlander, but it's up to those other guys to prove that Johan isn't worthy.

Twins fans, be afraid...be very afraid.:sorry:

They way Rich Harden pitched last night there's no reason why he doesn't have a shot if he can stay healthy. It's way too early to tell.

I dont know about that, Zambrano had no wins in April and looked to be hopelessly lost last year, meanwhile, Greg Maddux was 5-0 with an ERA of about 1. Bronson Arroyo was 4-0 with 2 HRs...off the Cubs...Glendon Rusch:silent:

Johan has he best shot coming in (though his opening day wasn't too pretty), but I like many of the others, I believe King Felix will be in the hunt as well. And if Santana can't get it back together, then who knows.... it'll be open season.

he was going from the softer hitting NL with no DH, to the stronger hitting AL with the DH. it was an adjustment year and learning year for Beckett and after watching his first start and seeing how differently he pitched, not relying on his fastball so much, i have no doubt that he will challenge for the Cy Young.

Beckett definitely looked like a contender in his first start, and if he can keep it up...

At any rate, he can't get any worse than last year.

You just might end up like the Black Knight, Mikey. Oh, running away, are you!

I like what you're thinking... But is seems every year he strains something and goes to the DL.

Have I missed something? When did Felix Hernandez become such a "money guy" for the AL Cy Young? I mean, he pitched in one of the most pitcher friendly environments last year and posted worse than average numbers across the board. I understand he's young and all of that and it's very possible he could turn it on this year. But I just don't see how he's money in the bank or a better pick than Johan, Halladay... or even VERLANDER and so forth. Guys who have actually proven themselves. Verlander to a lesser extent... but at least he's shown me _something_.

As for my pick? It's hard to go against Johan, so I won't.

I voted for "other" mainly because I'm hoping for Hernandez.

For one, Felix is only 21 this year. But the reason I like his chances this year (to finish 2nd) is because basically he was unlucky last year. IIRC his BABIP and other "luck factor" numbers were much worse than league average last year. If things even themselves out, then he is primed for a monster year. And his stuff is still electric. Not often you see guys throwing sinkers at 98 consistently.

I'd say Santana I guess. Kazmir is on the list? There's no way he'll get enough wins with that bullpen. I'd watch out for Jered Weaver who will return in a like a week or so. King Felix was very impressive also.
