It means collecting autographs "through the mail" (TTM).
I wrote a short article (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/39240/how_to_collect_baseball_autographs.html) on the topic for an online site, check it out, then feel free to ask questions on this board, everyone is really helpful.

That is sweet! So it actually works? I also didn't quite get where to send it too? A clubhouse or something?

You can purchase players addresses a couple of sites or send to current players at their clubhouse. It's a really cool hobby!

Okay so let me make sure I understand everything. I should send a envelope addressed to the player to the clubhouse including a card or something to sign. And thats all? BTW thanks a lot for your help

Among many other things, you MUST include a self addressed stamped envelope when you send your request.
There are literraly hundreds of good sites out there devoted to ttm'ing, check em out.
You will find taht this hobby is very addicting.

Check out sites like this...the "TTM Success" threads are a great place to find out what players sign and which ones don't. I have gotten hundreds of autographs TTM, including about 65 this year alone.
Two keys are to write a nice letter with your request and only send cards you don't mind losing, since not all players sign this way, or something could get lost or damaged in the mail.

The keys to having success for this hobby is simple. You must do your "homework" prior to writing to any ball players. Whether they are past or present. Think about this: Sending to Albert Puljos.... he must get tons of autograph requests per day. Do you think that he sits back and spends hours per day during the regular season to honor all of them? Absolutely not.
Alot of today's stars will or simply will not honor requests ttm. It's all a crap shoot.
Write a short and POLITE letter. Always use "please" and thank you". Rule of thumb: NEVER send more than 3 cards per request.
Write to the player whether it be at their home or stadium in a #10 long envelope, put inside of their your cards, your letter and you small sase envelope. Don't forget to put a stamp on the sase! Sometimes players sign quickly... sometimes yrs lapse. Don't be discouraged! It takes time, and remember they are doing us the favor by signing and returning our cards to us. If you have any other question please feel free to pm me or post here.
REMEMBER: Asking for stadium address' is fine. I DO NOT CONDONE posting home address' on here. So if you want a home address pm me or someone else. And we can help you out.
