I've never heard this one.
I wouldn't mind the move.

I don't see the Yanks or the Mets allowing that move.

I think there is a certain limit on how close new franchises move into an existing team's market.

Remember when the Nationals moved into the Oriole's backyard?
MLB had to practically payoff the Orioles so that Angelos and Co. would quit their bitching and moaning.

The only thing I Found about this is a 2 year old truth and rumors piece from SI.com (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/scorecard/11/23/truth.rumors.mlb/1.html):
On the day baseball commissioner Bud Selig announced he had given the Florida Marlins permission to explore moving the team out of South Florida, sports officials in New Jersey contacted the team's owner about moving to the Meadowlands.

I hate to be the language police, but please watch the language. We have some young posters here, too.

Wait a minute...Angelos at one point in time cared about his team? Back to the topic though, Texas might want another team, and Vegas really wants a team...why not give the Marlins?

Are you kidding me??? You're complaining about the word "bitching"?

Golly Gee, Wally! I sure hope those big bad internet posters don't use any of nasty words like heck or darn.

In answer to the original post, there's no way in hell the Yanks and Mets allow another team into the NYC area.

Hey, if you act like that, then I wouldn't be surprised if you get a warning yourself about the language. You need to check yourself before you start typing. I will report you if you keep swearing. :twocents:

Let's clean up the language guys.

Now, on subject, I think it would be a great movie for the Marlins but a bad move for the Marlins. There's plenty of other places that could use a team besides the NE. Monterey anyone?

I am looking at a Websters dictionary: the third definition of the word bitch is a grievance or complaint. That is the definition for which I took the earlier poster to mean and which I was referring to in my initial post. Heck and darn (at least in the sense I meant it) are not in Websters. I therefore will not use them anymore.

Wow...are you kidding me? You gave me a warning for using the word? Are you serious dude?

I think every single person who knows how to use the Internet knows what the word means and I strongly disagree it's even a bad word. The word means complaining....that's all. There is no other definition for it.

I got no problem refraining from using it...but to get a warning for using it.
That's just ridiculous!

If your in the mood to abuse/show off your God-like powers than tell me that.
But please don't tell me that your gonna warn me about using the word.

And for the record, I've never had a problem with anyone here and have been a respectful member..I think DX and Matty could both vouch for that.
And no...I'm not asking either of them to side with me.

And if I come off as peeved..(I don't wanna say Pee eye double S E Dee)...I'm sure you could understand why.

He cared for about a minute...and only because he knew that MLB would have to compensate him heavily.

What about the talks of the city of Miami about a new stadium? I thought that I read something about that , 3-4 months ago.

Rather than New Jersey, why not bring major league baseball back to Brooklyn? After a fifty year delay!

As much as any of us think that the NYC area could support another MLB team (Brooklyn, NJ whatever). It is completely unrealistic to think that Steinbrenner or Wilpon will allow another team into this area. (I'm sure the Phillies wouldn't be too happy with this either.) As long as baseball maintains it's Anti-Trust exemption there will be only two teams in the NY Metropolitan area.

The Marlins, if they move are probably going to a second tier southern city although Portland, OR remains a distant chance.

I dunno, but I mean Anaibel Sanchez threw a no hitter infont of a crowd of no more than 5000...Hanley Ramirez may be the best short stop in the NL they still have had problems with attendance. I think both Florida teams should move though that's just my opinion.

Brooklyn's now got the Mets AA team. The Brooklyn Cyclones.
Although I wouldn't mind seeing a Major league team in Brooklyn.

I would go for that...but I'd say merge the D'Rays with the Marlins and keep'em in Miami.
LF: Delmon Young
CF: Elijah Dukes
RF: Jeremy Hermedia
3B: Miguel Cabrerra
SS: Hanley Ramirez
2B: Dan Uggla
1B: Mike Jacobs
C: Dioner Navarro

SP: Dontrelle Willis
SP: Scott Kazmir
SP: Anibal Sanchez
SP: Josh Johnson
SP: Scott Olsen

Trade: Carl Crawford (Because he's about to get paid), BJ Upton (Uggla is much more polished), Johnny Gomes (No clear position),Rocco Baldelli (Health reasons), Josh Willingham , Jae Soo, Jorge Julio (Mr. Inconsitency)
All could be traded for younger prospects or to bolster the Starters or to upgrade

I also made that same argument. I just don't think The Boss or Wilpon are gonna like another dog barking around their yards. And it would cost MLB a hefty price to pay both of them to pipe down.

What about putting the team in Las Vegas(No Major Sports)? New Orleans (NBA,NFL)? San Jose (NHL)?? San Antonio (NBA team)?? Tucson(No Major Sports, PHX is 115Miles away)? Fresno (No Major Sports teams)?

San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the US and the first one in the top 50 without a MLB team. After all the problems MLB has had with small market teams it would make the most sense to move the Marlins (if they are moved) to San Antonio. Then again this is MLB we are talking about and they've never seemed to have the market cornered on common sense.

And sorry Brownie, but B-ham isn't in the top 50. :sorry:

If you want to go by population in the city itself, then whatever, San Antonio's the largest without a team. By this measure, though, Boston is only 23rd in the country, and smaller than such non-teamed cities as Memphis, El
Paso, and Indianapolis.

By metro area population, which is really what matters for team placement, the largest city without a team is Portland (23rd in the country), followed by Sacramento. San Antonio is 29th, right below Kansas City and above Las Vegas.

Miami, meanwhile, is seventh; just behind Houston and ahead of Washington.

I knew Boston is pretty tiny (actually about the same population as Staten Island) but the Sawks aren't going anywhere.

If Portland metro is bigger than San Antonio put it there makes no difference to me but I was under the impression that Portland was balking at building a Stadium something that Bud will insist on before he allows a team to move.

San Antonio didn't seem to have this issue if I remember correctly.

This is a good site for stadium information: http://www.ballparks.com/baseball/index.htm

The team should stay in lower Florida.
Either that or they are surely moving to Las Vegas or some city that it can make money off.

It's a shame though, the Marlins is a franchise where if they have the resources, they can win, and win World Series too.

Why are there so few fans in a warm weather state like florida? In NYC we are lucky if we can get out onto a field in March and you guys down there have nice weather almost all year round.
