I dare you to find one thing wrong with this ballot!
In terms of the rules, I cannot, so it will count. See, it really isn't that hard to cast a valid ballot if you happen to pay attention to what you're doing and the rules.
However, in terms of a ridiculous bias toward 1) corner players with 2) power from 3) the past 30-40 years, there's plenty I regard as wrongheaded about your ballot. That's not to say there shouldn't be some players who meet all three criteria on your ballot--heck, I have some, too. But when all of them meet at least two of the three and the vast majority meet all three, well, I think your focus is badly skewed. There isn't one pitcher, or catcher, or shortstop, or second baseman, or Negro Leaguer or pre WW II player, or someone without serious home run punch not already in the BBF HOF who is better than at least one of the guys on your ballot in your opinion? That's what your ballot says--and my opinion is such a position is pure poppycock.

After some reorganization, here's a "new look" ballot. Carl Mays replaces Mickey Welch, who had nothing going for him but 300 wins; Orlando Cepeda joins his papa, but knocks out superstar pitcher Hilton Smith; Bobby Wallace goes up the middle.
John Beckwith
Sal Bando
Charlie Bennett
Roger Bresnahan
Pete Browning
Jim Bunning
Orlando Cepeda
Perucho Cepeda
Will Clark
Darrell Evans
Nellie Fox
George Gore
Frank Grant
Heinie Groh

It would be necessary to first convince Sockeye that there is more to greatness than career home run totals.
I looked up Burks, Davis, Gaetti, May, and Vaughn at baseball-reference and saw that their home run totals all fell within the 350-360 range. That's when I realized just how Sockeye constructed his ballot.
I made a list of career home run leaders among players who are eligible for the BBFHOF, but have not yet been inducted.
1) Rafael Palmeiro 569
2) Fred McGriff 493
3) Jose Canseco 462
4) Dave Kingman 442
5) Darrell Evans 414
6) Andres Galarraga 399
7) Joe Carter 396
8) Graig Nettles 390
9) Dwight Evans 385
10) Harold Baines 384
11) Larry Walker 383
12) Frank Howard 382
Jim Rice 382
14) Orlando Cepeda 379
Tony Perez 379
16) Matt Williams 378
17) Norm Cash 377
18) Rocky Colavito 374
19) Gil Hodges 370
20) Gary Gaetti 360
21) Greg Vaughn 355
22) Lee May 354
23) Ellis Burks 352
24) Chili Davis 350
25) George Foster 348
If you were to take these twenty-five players and list them in alphabetical order, you would end up with Sockeye's ballot.
As Jim said, Sockeye's ballot will count. However, I wish Sockeye would realize that there is more to greatness than hitting a lot of home runs over the course of one's career, and revise his ballot accordingly before April 13.

My ballot has been revised to more accurately represent my true HOF feelings.
I believe I made my point! In case you missed it it is simply this. Anybody can look at a list and put together a ballot that is within the "rules" and thus have it counted. Legitimate ballots shouldn't not be counted because perhaps the names weren't in alphabetical order, or there was a mistake or two as to players who were regarded as still active due to playing in some foreign league.
As for the Negro leagers. It just so happens that political correctness has run-a-muck. I am of firm belief that every deserving negro leaguer has already been selected to the BBF HOF and then some that are in no way deserving. This belief that no ballot is complete unless there are at least a couple NL players on the ballot is false and needs to cease at once. It is quite safe to say that from this point on you will never see a NL player on my ballot. There simply are no qualified NLers left.
Similar is the case for the japanese players although I do believe that a case can still be made for a few. I myself struggled with the prospects of adding Hiromitsu Kadota to my ballot but at the end decided on Jimmy Ryan to round out my ballot instead.
There are no 2B, SS, or C on my ballot this time around. This does not mean that in the future as more players are elected to the BBF HOF that I won't support players at these positions. It simply means I feel that at the current time the BBF HOF is slightly over represented at these positions and the most deserving candidates not yet inducted are not among the 25 most deserving non-inductees. And again I do not believe in quotas when putting together my ballot. The belief that there has to be diversity on the ballot with players of every race, nationality, and positional backround in order for the ballot to be complete is rediculous.

Just a warning to you and anyone else who wants to post ballots "to make a point" in this manner: the next time you do so, you risk forever losing your right to have your ballot counted in this project. You wasted both of our time and effort when simply paying attention to the rules (which are clear and readily available) and complying with said rules was in order. If it had merely been one or two names who were ineligible, you would have been notified and given the chance to rectify the mistake. However, we have had a lengthy discussion of permitting ballots of less than 25 candidates, and the current rule has resulted and will not be changed. Additionally, accurately counting the votes is not a short process, even when the candidates are listed in alphabetical order. The rules state the reason for the requirement that ballots be listed alphabetically. If you are so rude as to not care about those rules and have some consideration for the person (me) who is doing this service free of charge, I will return the favor by ignoring your ballot. That will not change, either. The bottom line is, show me some consideration, and I will return the favor. Be as rude as you have been in your ballots, and I shall return the favor as well by giving your ballot as much consideration as you have given me.
As for quotas, I don't believe in application of them, either. However, when a ballot is drawn even predominantly from a narrow pool of players from a limited set of positions representing a limited time frame and a limited set of talents, that's an absurd ballot.
Suffice it to say, this ballot is an improvement, but it still demonstrates you and I will forever have deep disagreements over what makes a person worthy of the HOF.
Any further discussion of this ballot will be deleted from this thread and moved to the BBF HOF discussion thread.

Sewell's career leading "can't-strike-me-out" numbers warrant instant HOF inclusion, not forgetting that the career numbers are also easily acceptable. Surprised he isn't on any other ballots.
Anyway, I went through that handy list of players not in our hall, but in Cooperstown and narrowed the field down to the most worthy. I then threw in a few others that I felt deserved a vote. As more of these become inducted, I'll start voting for "leading Negro League player" or "leading Japanese player", along with looking over some more of the names posted in the voting thread and some of my favorite Dodgers.

Two notes:
1) When I had Whitaker on the fence several months ago, I had failed to consider the effects of the DH on win shares. With the DH, offensive win shares are, in effect, divided among nine regulars instead of eight, but the total number of win shares available remains constant. This would mean that if we were to have two position players who produced the same numbers in the same offensive context, the one in the league without the DH would have more win shares than the one in the league with the DH, and this difference in win shares would be entirely due to the existence of the DH in one league instead of the other.
After I realized this, I believed that I needed to take this factor into account when comparing players across eras. Whitaker had 116 win shares in his best five consecutive seasons; this would be comparable to being in the mid-120s in a league without a DH, and this would make Whitaker's peak among the best of those 2B outside the BBFHOF. Whitaker had one season with 29 win shares, and four with 19; an adjustment gives us an MVP-type season for Whitaker and four more All-Star-type seasons. He already has plenty of career value.
So that's why I changed my mind regarding Whitaker.
2) Have we ever had two ballots in the same election with no names in common? Nobody on Sockeye's ballot made my list.

I'll get more details up tomorrow, but I want to announce we've elected Nellie Fox this month and no one else. I'll start the new election thread today.
I will say that the decline to 13 voters is troubling, and I hope it is attributable to Easter break. If not, this project is truly on its last legs.
