On this wonderful (if snowy) March 17th, I wish my fellow posters all of the joys of St. Patrick's Day.
Sadly, the Brooklyn Irish - once a large component of the Ebbets Field fandom - have become a diminishing breed.

I caught a little of what was once a great parade, here in NYC today. It made me sad to see me how few people lined up on Fifth Avenue, from 44th to 86th Streets. During the 50's, 60's 70's thousands would be packed together enjoying the "wearing of the green"...and we loved every minute of it. Still, it was a grand old day!
During the days when the "Big O" ran OUR team, there was always a huge St. Paddy's Day party, during spring training, at Dodgertown in Vero Beach.

I found these invitations to the St. Patrick's day festivities VERY interesting.

He made a point of placing the year, 1957, for Brooklyn. In no other year did he do that. And the outlawed song, "California here we come"? Don't tell me he didn't know well before the end of the season that they were gone.

Come, come now, laddy, no one on this forum ever said that he didn't know well before 1957...it was just that WE chose not to accept it, especially while he was spouting his "my roots are in Brooklyn speeches".
But, thanks for adding the St. Paddy's Day Program, Shotgun.

Your welcome.
There are earlier ones that are less depressing, but I found that the most interesting.
One other interesting thing on the invitation menu is the "Alston-McVasi Salad without Robinson". Am I just an alarmist or is that a swipe at Jackie.
Was the split that contentious? It seems too gleeful in tone to me so soon.

You have it just about right, Shotgun.
The Big "O" was never a big fan of OUR Jackie (other than the $$$$$ he made for him). He wanted to just be rid of anyone, and anything, that reminded him of Branch Rickey, and OUR Jackie was the ultimate reminder.
Indeed, since the attempted trade to the Giants only happened a few months before, this gleeful tone was no doubt intentional...like, "glad to see you go".
