Well, the 1956 poll is a landslide in favor of Herb Score. One can only imagine what could've been had he not been hit in the eye by a Gil McDougald line drive in 1957.

Anyway, let's march on to '57. This is only a slightly more difficult decision. My vote goes to Jim Bunning.

NOTE: Dick Donovan's entry should read 2nd place finish (CHW), not 4th. Also, Donovan was the runner-up in the ML Cy Young vote that year, but I personally can't see him overtaking Pierce or Bunning.

Agreed. Since Spahn represented the NL that year by winning the Cy, I'm only focusing on the A.L. pitchers (just as if the current format was in place back then with one award per league).

Next year (1958), the focus shifts to the N.L. since Bob Turley of the Yankees won it that year.

I can't see Dick Donovan overtaking Frank Sullivan (who I have tied for 2nd with Billy Pierce).

I guess I could vote for Bunning but I have Frank Sullivan as the actual winner.

I'll vote for Bunning, followed by Sturdivant.

Billy Pierce, the best AL pitcher of the '50s!
