Who's the man (or is it men?)??? Plus, what is the number of strikeouts in a row, PLUS, complete (if it pertains) game totals?

didn't Sammy Stewart have it with 6 or 7 in a row? It may have been broken recently..

Was Joe Cowley a rookie when he struck out eight in a row?

Cowley was a rookie in 1982 and he struck out the FIRST seven Rangers to start off the game on May 28, 1986, so he was not a rook. The man who struck out eight in a row was Jim Deshaies, who began a game against the Dodgers on Sept 23, 1986 (yep, same year!) by striking out the first eight, breaking the short-lived record held by Cowley. Not sure what the ML record is for consecutive K's during a game, but these two records are for pitchers striking out the FIRST batters he faced in the game.

Also, I seem to remember Karl Spooner and J.R. Richard sharing the record for most strikeouts in a game as a rookie. 15 I think.

That's an interesting piece of trivia. I'm still not sure the good Captain's question has been answered yet, however. Who holds the rookie record for most CONSECUTIVE strikeouts as a starter?
I do believe you're correct about Seaver holding the record for most consecutive strikeouts, now that you mention it. I seem to recall reading the 10 consecutive K's somewhere.

Ah, yes, Deshaies, the man with the HOF vote because the voters could vote for Deshaies.
All I remember is what I kind of read on the back of a bubble gum card.

What the...???
Actually, yes, the answer IS Jim Deshaies, pertaining to the original question of a rookie consecutive strikeout record (8).
The rest of this thread is entertaining, and informative, so let's keep it that way...no reason to badmouth Jimmy D. for his record.

P.S. - emphasis again on the FIRST batters faced in a game, as brought into better light by Dodgerfan1.

Not my intent at all, just pointing out it was fairly publicized a few years back a certain writer would always thrown one HOF vote toward a lesser recognized player on the ballot. One year, that was Deshaies.
I'd never denigrate any major leaguer for their on-field accomplishments, especially in light of my own. We have enough people who actually do that here.

Deshaies also holds the record for the most at-bats (373) without an extra base hit and has the distinction of being the 1000th player to play for the Yankees.

For those that care I found out what the single game strikeout record for rookies is.
Some guy named Kerry Wood struck out 20 on May 6, 1998 breaking Bill Gullickson's record of 18 set in 1980.

Yeah, that is the main reason that Wood won the ROY award over Todd Helton. Wood had a dead arm towards the end of the season, finished lousy and still won the ROY.
Still not as bad as when the voters gave the ROY award to Nomo over Chipper Jones in 1995.

Yeah, I thought that was it. BTW, interesting notes about Jimmy D. in your post above this one. I had no idea. Not that it's for bragging rights...knowing his personality, he'll laugh until his dying breath if he knew those facts. ;)
So, I just have one last part of my question that is still unanswered:
How many K's did he leave the game with?
:)

IDK why, but did Juan Cruz strike out 10 in a row? I thoguht I recall a game where he struck out a bunch of players. It may have been my imagination, but can someone look into it? For all I know, he did strike out a bunch. I thoght I remember hearing the announcers saying he was tying a record.
