Mike McCormick in 1948?

Could someone please enlighten me as to what happened to him during the 1948 World Series? Injury...etc? Thanks for your time. :)

I spend one weekend in June each year, at B.U., during Mass. Special Olympics and I always try to tell people about the old Boston Braves that played on that field, once...a long time ago. I even wear my Braves hat in there! :) LOL
