Busy day today: two successes, one failure, and one trade.
Dan Wheeler 1/1 c/o Astros ST. Wheeler is an RI native, one of the few active. (scan (http://www.baseball-trivia-game.com/ttm/players/wheeler.htm))
Ben Mondor 2/2 (CIC) in 11 days c/o of Pawtucket Red Sox. Ben Mondor is the longtim owner of the Sox AAA team here, saving pro ball in RI when he bought the team, and keeping it affordable and family friendly to this day. (scan (http://www.baseball-trivia-game.com/ttm/players/mondor.htm))
TRADE: Clem Labine. Thanks Bill! (scan (http://www.baseball-trivia-game.com/ttm/players/labine.htm))
FAILURE: Jim Bunning returned my card in my SASE, no explanation.

Just send a letter requesting either a signed photo or signed ball. He takes care of everything else. If you really personalize the letter, you will get a typed response back with his signature.

TTM Rush...
Nothing new this morning, just a quick thank you!
On Saturday the mail came and as we drove by to pick it up the boy says from the back seat: I wonder if we'll get something today? I told him I don't know and pulled up to the mail box grabbed the mail and started to look through it. The wife yelled at me and told me to give it ALL to her. I did and she went through each piece until finally the last one was one of our SASE!!!
She then handed it to us to open (jim thome). Then said: See, it is better with a little anticipation!!
Now we will wait for the THREE of us to be home tonight to open any SASE!!!
Thanks for the intro to this excellent family hobby! :clapping

:clapping
bryans
Hey Bryans and son....the anticipation is exciting....but I have rules with my wife...1) all Mail goes in the same place on my desk if I am not home. 2) Call me at work if over 6 pieces (that way I can drool all the way home 3) My son can open mail if home or not to busy, but mail has to be put back in mandated spot 4) NEVER WITH HOLD MAIL..I believe I read in fine print that that is one of the 11 reasons to get a divorce!!! Have fun guys and included mom in on the action.

I love those rules Kearns. Here are my rules.
1. Mail goes in same spot on my desk.
2. Like you, if over 4 pieces, she calls me.
3. Mail is not to be opened unless I say so.;)
4. On way home from work, my wife will tell me what stamp is on the envelopes. This helps me to guess who's graph it is.
5. Last rule is, if I get nothing in the mail, give me 2 minutes to seeth, before talking to me about my day.

You should check out the postmark and see who it might be from... I usually do different stamps for different mailings... if you do that you might be able to see who it was...

Interesting day at the mailbox:
Dave Winfield 1/1 via home address.
Dave Winfield 1/1 via team address.
Joe Morgan. Returned my cards and sent a signed index card. c/o ESPN.
RTS from Bill Mazeroski.
I had sent to Winfield at both home and the team to see if he signed from either place. I sent on the same day, and recieved them back on the same day. He sent a postcard advertising his new book with each.
Anyone have a recent success with Mazeroski?
Scans hopefully tomorrow...between the new puppy and a few too many meetings, didn't get to them today!

My rules are quite simple:
1.) I have the po box in just my name... so I always check my mail before work.
2.) If I come home and am grumpy, my girlfriend knows I received nothing in the mail.
3.) If I come in a good mood she knows why. ;)

Hey all, after reading and seeing how cool this TTM thing is I decided to send out some and see how it went. I sent to five people last Monday (but didn't actually get picked up by the carier until the next morning). Anyways, today I got back my first successful TTM:
Sparky Anderson c/o home- 2/2 1984T, 1987T
Whitey Herzog c/o home- 1/1 1987T
Man, I was so jacked:clapping . Now just waiting on Johnny Ray, Warren Cromartie, and Bud Selig!!
By the way, how do you all store your TTM's? In toploaders, pages, or just in penny sleeves in a box? I know some of you have extensive TTM collections- just curious.
PS- what is a CIC?:hp

This was right before Christmas:
A follow up to the "mail rules" in previous post....a few years ago I was re-arranging our baseball room and came across a stack of mail...I looked at the bunch (5 or 6) and noticed that the stamps were all older ones before the most recent postal increase. "Honey, do you remember these envelopes?" A sheepish no nod was her reply! I opened up the pieces and in it was one on my favorite items, and dual card on John and Ed O'Brien, twins brothers who played for the Pirates back in '54. Along with Robin Yount and others.
It was then a serious discussion was needed to prevent the next melt down.
A designated spot was declared for the mail..along with the other rules stated above. Well, I tell you, the first gift I got from underneath the tree that year was own set of dish towels...with the words "his" written right on them :( ! "I heard your rules, now hear mine, the dishes are all yours!!!!" Anybody got a remedy for dishpan hands?!!

Thanks! Yeah, finding time to even do these TTM is hard between work and home, but I figure maybe I'd send out 4 or 5 a week and see how it goes. we homeschool, so I could get the kids to write my TTM notes:rolleyes: The thing is that I don't really have any kids that are into following baseball- I have two boys that collect cards: Justin only likes cards from any of the Philadelphia teams, and Christian just likes to collect any card he can get with no preference to sport or anything.
I did get my ball and a signed business card today from the Commish! Very sharp looking, too.
I think Duke Snider is going out this week. I got his address, but couldn't find any cards or reprints handy to send to him when low and behold in a pack of 07 Topps i got his 'Distingushed Service' insert card. Perfecto!

I teach Communications Merit Badge at my son's Boy Scout troop and when we talk about ways to communicate NOBODY says Letter Writing!!! They text, email, cell phone, talk, even morse code. But nobody says the letter. What a lost art that is! We have learned so much about our Founding Fathers, Soldiers, Historical Figures and plain olde folk just by reading letters they have sent out. What will historians in the future think of our times? Will there be excitement over the finding of a lost cache of emails on an old hard drive in someone's attic?
When writing I make my son use pen and paper and actually say something other than sign my card please. I think it is great to get our young ones involved.....:gt

God Bless you both. My time with my son is so precious, its like my body and soul needs it. And when those times disappear, memories will still exist. I'm sitting here typing away, day off, he is in school and can't wait for him to get home to share the mail.

From talking with a couple of friends, they say Matt is a "real" 6'6 catcher. He's big and can hit. I had heard that he has a "consultant" who has been advising him not to sign autographs until he goes pro, but it looks like he isn't taking his advice. The other rumor is that Tri-star or Topps are going to try to sign him to an exclusive autograph deal, meaning he can only sign graphs through them.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna try and get some phillies cards for Justin to send out (Larry Bowa, John Kruk). Christian likes all cards but he also likes to watch baseball. We went to a Louisville Riverbats AAA game year before last and he and my daughter got autographed baseballs from the winning pitcher (he was playing for Toledo IIRC)- we had great seats about three rows up from the vistors bullpen on the first base side.

Nope, you should be OK. Minor leaguers are at spring training, they're just in the minor league camp...which is usually either right next to the major league camp, or at least very close. If you sent c/o the minor league camp, they should find the player.
I've already gotten a few minor leaguers who weren't in major league camp c/o Red Sox ST.

I still sent them to the major leage camp, but hopefully they will find their way to the right players. I still sent them to the major leage camp, but hopefully they will find their way to the right players. I know it's pretty late in Spring training too, so I added an extra 2¢ stamp in case of a postal increase. I think I might have to wait until next years spring training to get some of these back. I sent 95 Spring Training requests total, and have gotten 5 back total.
Sorry, I should have said "If you sent c/o the MAJOR league camp, they should find the player". I've sent cards to minor leaguers at the major league came and had success, including Jason Place c/o the Red Sox ST earlier this week.

Good day today - all guys I thought charged, but I got for free:
Johnny Podres - 1/1 in 6 days
Dave Henderson - 3/3 in 10 days
Jim Kaat - 3/3 in 50 days (he must have been clearing his mail this week)
This year, I've sent out 247 requests and have gotten 31% back! That seems pretty good, and it's thank to the advice of all on this board... so thanks!

If you send to him a 2nd time... he will return your card back unsigned with a price list. Still $5 per card for this fella isn't bad in my opinion.
