This Negro League player left professional baseball behind to become a Harlem Globetrotter. Name him.

Very good, you get the cookie! :clapping

RMB, while Gibson was indeed a Globetrotter, he left professional basketball behind to play baseball. Plus, he was never a Negro Leaguer. ;)

Correct. Gibby or just "Hoot", went to Creigton Univ on a college basketball
scholarship, and in 1957 accepted a $4K bonus to sign with the Cardinals.
He delayed that for a year to play with the Globetrotters where he earned
the nickname "Bullet Bob".....but resigned from the Globetrotters because of
all the clowning around. He was a rather serious fellow.

Ferguson Jenkins also played for the Globetrotters.

He also smoked a lot of weed. Actually got caught.

Still in the HOF.

Friggin' hypocries.

Oh, and I didn't know that about Jenkins being a Trotter. Thanx for that info, KS. If anyone knows of any other baseball players who were members of the Globetrotters, feel free to chime in. :)I've found various Internet sources that say Satchel Paige, Lou Brock, and Frank Robinson all played for the Globetrotters.

I've found various Internet sources that say Satchel Paige, Lou Brock, and Frank Robinson all played for the Globetrotters.

Paige I can envision, if only because he was baseball's "Globetrotter." But, although I'm not doubting it just yet, I haven't seen evidence that he was officially a member.

As for Brock or Robinson (or anyone else, for that matter), I'd love to see those sources.

Jenkins and Gibson are there. So is Paige, assuming he changed his name and grew.

"Robert" Paige, perhaps (it was his middle name). But they have him listed as 7ft tall. Satch was 6'4".

Still dunno about Brock or Robinson. There was a Brock, but a 6ft-8in "Ernest"?

From wikipedia.org: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harlem_Globetrotters)

Another popular team member in the 1970s and 1980s was Fred "Curly" Neal who was the best dribbler of that era of the team's history and was immediately recognizable due to his shaven head. Baseball Hall of Famers Bob Gibson, Ferguson Jenkins and Lou Brock also played for the team at one time or another. Another famous former player is comedy legend Bill Cosby who had a contract with the Globetrotters when he was younger,

Not doubting your intentions, UC, but I do doubt the veracity of many things written in Wikipedia. It's hardly reliable.

The Brock listed on the all-time roster at the Globetrotters website was named Ernest and, according to them, was taller than our Louis Clark Brock. If there's a more concrete source, that'd be terrific.

As of now, I'm still unsure of Paige, Brock, and especially Robinson. :noidea

I found this picture a while ago, probably on an auction house website.

19945
Caption: Leroy "Satchel" Paige is having a tough time deciding his future and the Harlem Globetrotters and L.A. Angels have different ideas on what he should do. Abe Saperstein and Walter Dukes of the Trotters tug on Paige's arm to keep him with Trotters, while Bill Veeck (right) tries to pull "Satch" over to the Angels side. The vet may sign an L.A. contract. Photo dated: January 30, 1954.

Not helping your chances of making moderator here Geofrey.Sorry, didn't mean to pick on you. But if they haven't seen enough of my "work" yet to figure out if they want me as moderator, I've probably got a snowball's chance in Florida
