I'm not sure if I read this right, but are later and rotational hitting two seperate techniques for hitting? Could someone explain them to me?
Thanks

I think you mean linear and rotational hitting and yes they are different. You can do a search here on the two and find a bunch of information.

I did a "differences between linear and rotational hitting" search on one of the major search engines and got 1500+ hits. I would suggest you read, gather some information and then come back

Well, after looking, they seem to have some in common but in general is it that:
Linear: More weight transfer, stamping down with the front foot.
Rotational: Light step forward, rotate with hips, etc.

This might help. This is another illustration of what MOST people mean by linear hitting. http://www.quickhands.net/pics.html
By rotational hitting, most people mean the MLB swing. http://imageevent.com/siggy/hitting;jsessionid=f4zh45yvo2.zebra_s
On the other hand, the terms "rotational" and "linear" hitting have been rendered mush by people coming up with their own definitions-most notably Right View's new definition. I now just refer to the MLB swing versus less efficient less effective swings.
As always, compare everything anyone tells you about hitting to slow motion video of the best in the world. Let that be your truth detector.

It's linear and rotational. There are three major differences:
1) footwork (to the ball v. same stride)
2) hand movement (to the ball v. through the zone)
3) weight transfer (through the swing v. torque)
Names to recognize: Lau v. Epstein/Williams
Linear is contact. It was hot in the era of the big cookie cutter AstroTurf parks with big gaps. Rotational is for driving the ball. Hall of Fame home run hitters swing rotational.
(For any hitting gurus I prefer not to break down linear v. rotational until it becomes a debate similar to how many angels dance on the head of a pin.)
