This pitcher spent most of his career with a legendary ball club. Had a winning record for his career. Once hit 2 HR's in a game. The answer ties to the title.

Now that's funny. You may want to look at the one of the boys of summer.

Sounds like the Newk

If you can find a connection to Newk and Danish pipes I would be amazed.

Cloninger was never one of the boys of summer, per the hint above.

Any chance it's Branca?

Any chance it's Branca?

No, but he was a teammate of Branca's.

Heh, I actually thought of Branca because there's a brand of Danish pipes called Thomsen.

The only other I can think of right now would be Clem Labine, but there may be a connection I'm overlooking. If it's not Labine, I'm stumped.

Yeah, I began resorting to checking out the pitchers for the Dodgers during the Boys of Summer time frame and seeing who hit at least two homers in a season, and who had winning lifetime records. I also considered Branca and Labine and, short of wild guesses, I'm pretty much out of it too.

Hey, KC, if it's not Labine, how about another hint?

Ben Wade, I suppose.

Ben Wade, I suppose. That has to be it. He hit two homers on 7/6/52, had a career 19-17 record, played 92 out of his 118 games with the Dodgers, and "In the 1970s, if you didn't want a pipe that looked like everyone else's, Ben Wades were purchased: Danish freehands that stood apart, beautifully and elegantly."

Oh boy... so a Ben Wade was a type of pipe? That's a new one on me. I guess the next quiz will be about Milton Bradley or Johnny Walker.
