Monday, March 6, 1961 Bradenton, FL: Joe Torre, left, and his older brother Frank, are shown at the Milwaukee Braves spring training. This was Joe Torre's first full season in the major-playing in over 100 games at catcher as the Braves, under first Charlie Dressen and then Birdie Tebbetts, finished fourth with an 83-71 record. My father was originally a Brooklyn boy, having grown up in the area of Marine Park and Sheepshead Bay. In the late 1950's and early 1960's, while my paternal grandparents were still living, we'd make a yearly sojourn to my father's old neighborhood.

Frank and Joe Torre were neighborhood boys. I recall walking to the candy store around the corner at E. 34th St & Avenue U where photos of Frank and Joe, in their Milwaukee Braves uniforms, were proudly displayed-in glorious black and white!

Thanks for the memories...;)
