Select as many of the above statements as you feel are true. Then, discuss.

Given the current state of our starting rotation (no Radke or Liriano), Boof will spend the entire season in the starting rotation if he can pitch anywhere near as well as he did last year. It looks like we finally have a halfway decent offense on the Twins, so I think Boof can pull out 14 or 15 wins this year assuming he can keep his ERA at least under 5.00

I have two predictions for Boof. One is my prediction as a Bonser fan. The other is my prediction as a baseball fan. They go like this:

Bonser fan:
21-9, 3.79 ERA, 207 K's

Baseball Fan:
14-11, 4.69 ERA, 139 K's

I expect no less than the following from Boof:

200-210 IP
160-170 K
15-17 W
3.40-3.60 ERA

Boof was a top prospect in SF right out of the draft and really showed flashes of why at the end of the year. I think he'll fill in quite nicely in the #2 spot in the rotation (although it will likely be only for one season).

Why do you say one season? What do you see happening?

Pitching on the ML level is a crap shoot at best. I wish him well.

I believe he was referring to the number 2 spot in the rotation. Unless Boof can magically elevate his game to near Santana's level, he'll definately slide down in the rotation once Liriano comes back.

Oh, of course. I didn't read it right. Yes, I agree, Boof'll definitely be down a peg for '08.

Correct...if things go as well as planned, we'll see Liriano as the #2 and Boof as the #3 men in the rotation.

NO NO NO, no way the Twins put two lefty's back to back. Its a baseball No No, Sure, Santana and Liriano are terribly mean pitchers, but its always good to split your lefties up!

Santana, Bonser, Liriano, Garza, Slowey/Perkins*

You can get away with following a fifth spot lefty with Johan Santana.

True that it is "best" to split them up, but when 3 of your top 4 pitchers are likely to be lefties (I think Perkins will be better than Garza and even possibly Boof), I don't know that you have a choice, especially in those situations in April when the teams have so many off days. Either way, I like the look of their young pitching staff.

Regardless of his "actual" spot in the rotation, let's face it, if he can return to form, Liriano is the Twins #2 pitcher. Two years ago, Radke got the opening day start and was technically their #1 pitcher, but Santana was coming off his 1st Cy Young Award and was their true #1.

yeah true, but its about positioning. I don't think Gardenhire and Anderson would have their two best lefties back to back going 1 & 2. They both have similar pitching styles so it's good to throw a Bonser or a Garza there in between them for a 3 game series.

I'm not sure that I don't agree with you, but if they are truly as dominant as they were were 1/2 the season last year, I don't know that it would matter. I'm not disagreeing, just trying to make an argument for seeing them back-to-back.

Although Boof has one more start before the All-Star break, the half-way point of the season has passed, and Boof's stats can be projected for the full season.
